CHAIRMAN John Berylson has revealed Millwall could smash their transfer record this summer - but insists the club will not pay over the odds for their transfer targets. Berylson, who flew into London for a board meeting yesterday, said: "Kenny has more money to spend than he has ever had. All of the proceeds from the Steve Morison sale have been given to him and he has more on top of that. "He's looking very hard. He wants to improve the strikeforce and there are lots of conversations going on. "I wouldn't be surprised if Kenny spent some big fees because it is something we have discussed at length. He could spend £1million on a striker. But it depends if he can find the right player." Above copied from SLP.
Let's hope Jackett spends the money well, during his interview on LP he said "it's very easy to sign players, but very hard to sign good players." he also said "we are on the search for hardworking millwall players" Sounds good to me! Also great to hear Jackett has the full Morison money to strengthen the team. KJ really has JB's complete full backing and it's so great to see.
Jimmy have you seen Kennys interview on lions player,,if you read between the lines it clearly shows we mean business. And J.B. in a previous interview has made it clear he wants improvement on last season, K.J. has a few Million in his pocket and a few targets in mind, its going to be a good season m8 please log in to view this image
I have to admit I was getting a little bit nervous about the lack of signings, but knowing Kenny has money and seemingly a good amount,I am feeling better about it. If the right player becomes available the money will be found and spent wisely.
I dont think it is the transfer money that has ever been the issue with KJ and JB, it is our stringent wage structure that is sometimes the stumbling block. BUT, reading the Southwark News yesterday, everyone is making the right sounds. I think it was KJ that came out and said that we missed out on that striker from Brighton, to Bristol City, but it was not due to either the wages OR transfer fee. That we had offered considerably more than our West country counterparts. he was supposed to come to The Den and have a medical with his contract ready and waiting to be signed, but he never showed, instead heading to Bristol. KJ said he didnt chase the matter as he dont want players at our club who dont want to be at our club. Pre-season training starts on July 4th for most clubs, and this is when I think we will start to swoop for our targets.
So we have all the Morison money £2.6M + a little pit more. £3M would get us Becchio, Gradel, Billy Sharp, and Townsend
========================================= I'll have a pint of what your on m8,3mill wouldn't even pay there wage never mind buy them.
Kedwell looks set to join Gills in League Two, so we won't be getting him which I'm not sure whether he'd have been able to play in the Championship anyway.
Still think we will have a problem signing Premiership reserve or experienced Championship players because of our current pay structure. Even if we can afford the transfer fee other Championship clubs will pay higher wages if they are interested in the same player as us. KJ is more likely to go for promising young players from the lower leagues like Jordan Rhodes or proven lower league goal scorers like Le Fondre. Also wonder if KJ has been looking in Europe to sign players as we are supposed to have an overseas scouting system.
I think we need more than defensive cover - the defence did well last year but by the end of the season other sides had sussed out our lack of pace through the middle and that all four of our full-backs are pretty much "defensive cover" standard in the first place. They will all do a decent job much of the time but a really good wide player will skin each and every one of them unless they are playing out of their skull that day.
Taking the stats into account a lot of crosses came in and would like to see left and right-back signings. With the £3m for strikers/midfied and defence KJ could just do it
