This Lescott thing gets better by the hour. Stoke owner Peter Coates has said that no contact has been made for Lescott but we are keeping an eye on the situation. Wba boss Alan Irvine has said that he may make a move for the player at some point. Lescott's agent James Featherstone has said that the player wont rush into anything just yet. 9 clubs interested so far.
We already have one - Davies, maybe two Chester. Lescott is on the decline and not what he was at Everton. I know Man City fans shop in Harrods for defenders, whilst we're rummaging through the clearance in Aldi - but he's not that great.
Euthanasia clinic....off you go!!!! Why are you plastic Geordies obsessed with coming on our board. HAWAY
Totally agree OLM. And while people say he's not as good as he used to be, he's not this, he's not that, thinking where we've come from in the last few years, he would be a fabulous addition, who'd have thought?? Certainly a big help when it comes to crunch EPL games and European games. And remember what some people said about Davies when he first came here, not the player he used to be etc........
Bullet dodged deffo. We have Chester and Davies, arguably one of the best CB pairings last season. Think about it, a player like lescott comes in on 2/3 times the wage Davies and Chester are on and then you have to make two other players happy. Before you know it Hull are shedding out **** loads on wages. All we need is adequate cover in case chester or davies picks up an injury. I don't see the point in spending 50-70k a week on a player that plays in a position which we are at our strongest. I grant you we are rather weak when it comes to wing backs and this is the area we should be looking at with up most priority as well as a left sided midfielder and another influential central midfielder (if we don't get livermore). For me 5 players will do it, stand in CB, CM, LB, CAM or attacking left/right sided midfielder and another striker. OLM if he was so good why is the clubs hes been linked with newly promoted and mid table at best? Think about it, he's not really worth the wage he commands and we have better options. Plus he's slow as fook. Most of you on here are looking at it as "he's an ex man city player worth 24m in the past" and not looking at the bigger picture for the club on the field and off it (financially).
No, if we're going to have a real crack at the Europa league we need 3 first choice centre halves to switch between, or 4 is Brucey decides to go predominantly 3 at the back. There's no way the same players can play Thursday/Sunday/Tuesday/Saturday/thursday/Sunday at a reasonable level of performance without getting injured. And what about when one does go and get injured?
You are presuming he will go 3 at the back, he may play a 4-4-2 in Europe and three at the back in the league meaning we have; Chester, Davies, Bruce, Mcshane. Add another CB for cover then we can do this. Chester, Davies, Bruce in the premier league/new signing Bruce/Mcshane or Mcshane/new signing in europe. Simples.
This isn't football manager or FIFA. Bruce and McShane aren't good enough. By your reckoning there's no point signing anyone at all as we already have a decent first 11.
Can someone please point out how Lescott and Irvine know each other so well and have previously worked together. Lescott Everton 2006-2009 Irvine Everton 2011-2014 Don't get where they have worked together.
Not by my reckoning at all, please read my post. I stated we need 5 new additions. Should have a frigging sticky thread on this board with a topic "learn how to read f*cking posts". Truth is you're only reading what you want to read. We do have a decent 11 already, we was comfortable in the premier league last season and all of the players adapted to Brucies tactics and system excellently. We also made the FA cup final.
You say we don't need another centre half because Chezzy and Davies are good enough. So which other 4 players are good enough that we don't need to replace, and which 5 aren't good enough?
I said we need adequate cover (another CB) actually... But I wouldn't replace Davies and Chester as our starting pair. I would say we need another striker, for me the players in their current positions don't cut it; Figgy, Boyd/Quinn(although I like Quinn). Then we need another striker to push for a starting place if Jelly or Long don't perform or one gets injured. Don't rate Sagbo. Need another RB too, have elmo further up the pitch on the right. Another CM or attacking midfielder. We do have options on the left with Brady.
Alan Irvine returned to Goodison Park 18 years after leaving as a player (1984) to join the coaching staff in the Summer of 2002. He worked with David Moyes as Assistant Manager at Everton before taking the managers job at Preston in 2007.
