Ok I'll assume you don't really mean Scholes should come out of retirement, so who in your wisdom should be the England anchor between the defence and the midfield?
I just detest the opinion that Gerrard is a world class midfield player, as he clearly proves time and time he isn't. He was a good box to box runner in his time, but he's never been and never will be a maestro, a technically gifted footballer that can control and dictate games. That is what England need, and the only world class one we've ever had has been Scholes. Even someone like Tom Huddlestone would have done a better job at controlling games than Gerrard and Henderson can do. It really is embarressing how technically inept our midfield is. Gerrard is incapable of stringing a few passes together. Pirlo was running rings round him all night
I refer you to post http://www.not606.com/showthread.ph...d-vs-Italy-Match-Thread?p=6628855#post6628855 - post #261 Sweet dreams whining tart x
Gerrard played as badly as Rooney but does he get stick on the **** RS board ? No he doesn't. The bitching on the RS board about United players was predictable but sad nonetheless. The ******ed **** DR will happily criticise a united player but will never do so for an RS player.
Your problem is clearly with Woy KS, Gerrard or any other player has to get the nod of him to be part of the WC team/squad, but your hate of Gerrard shouldn't cloud the fact that it wasn't just down to him.
Not saying it was just down to him, read my other posts , I've slated Cahill and Rooney, just to prove I'm not biased. Gerrard though was out of his depth up against Pirlo, the guy is a box to box midfielder who's legs have gone much like Lampard. He doesn't have the technical skill of a Pirlo, Scholes or a Xavi to really boss games with skill alone.
Is it really? Thank you so much Matth for this information, I don't know what any of us would do without your knowledge. Where do you find all this info from?
Can`t really fault Gerrard or Henderson tonight, they didn`t have much to do. It looked to me like the team were told not to try and stop Italy untill they reached the final third of the pitch, maybe to conserve energy for counter attacking but that left the midfield with the job of starting attacks but not very much involved otherwise.
This. Honestly, if that was a Liverpool performance I wouldn't be happy, let alone for England. Rooney played poorly, but what do you expect when he's shoved out to the wing? Sterling got praise but gave the ball away too cheaply and unfortunately was phased out of the game. Johnson had another poor game, bring in the Red Cafu, anyone else but Johnson. Sturridge had no support, Wellbeck was poor (But he's pony so really what'd you expect?). Positives? Barkley should start, England showed Rooney on the left is a mistake. Play him as the 10 or don't play him at all. He's an effective player if he's in the middle, putting himself about and able to grab the game by the scruff of the neck.
So then, anyone else think the white Pele should now be dropped and Barkley given a chance instead of him like I said a couple of days ago?
