As you can imagine not many of last years squad are safe from being sold on. But surely some assets from last season are too valuable to us to share the same fate, almost impossible to replace... I want you're 5 choices and a brief explanation as to why.

Here is my own list:

1: Cheik Tiote - Loves the Toon, Toon loves Tiote and he is world class.
2: Hatem Ben Arfa - Same as Cheik and also worked hard to come back 100% despite the assault from the overrated Nigel De Kvnt.
3: Tim Krul - 2 Snr caps for Holland, young and determined.
4: Steve Taylor - A rock at centre half and can add next year with the odd vital goal. Home grown with black and white blood and our best defender in my opinion.
5: Shane Ferguson - More vital than the others because he is 19 and already better than Damien Duff and can improve so much more.

1.) Cheik Tiote - quality ! will only get better with his second season
2.) Joey Barton - best season in a toon shirt last, need to keep him. Inspirational at times
3.) Collocini - an ever present at the back for us past few seasons, fans love him, finally becoming a good pl player
4.) Ben Arfa - amazing ability, saw flashes of it before the injury (everton away = wow)
5.) Jose Enrique - come on leaps and bounds, would be hard to replace for reasonable money imo

if i was honest i would say

1) tim krul
2) HBA
3) enrique
4) tiote
5) colo

no barton in that list for me because although he is a good player, i feel he is replaceable

equally as boring as the last failed attempt at banter, time to come up with something new maybe?

sorry shearers arm. didnt realise i had to abide by your rules of banter. ill try better next time. the reason that you get these kinda posts maybe is because its not the most interesting article and people just wanna have fun really! theres banter involved on all threads. its just how forums work. dont need to get your nickers in a twist

Colo shows some good flashes but also gets turned more than a curious emo kid in a gay bar.
Jose... someone who wants to be elsewhere and keeps blanking management and board is no way indispensable, this club is bigger than a good left back.

Over the course of a season I think Barton would be of greater importance than Krul at this moment in time. Leads by example, doesn't give up, can create goals, works hard etc. If we didn't have Krul then we'd be no worse off with Harper in goal. Where as if we didn't have Barton then Raylor would be on RM. I think Raylor is a useful squad player but not a starter.

what i'm saying is who could we get for a decent fee to replace someone who has done well for us as a player... not many options out there, LB for some reason is a difficult position to fill. IMO of course

How do you work this out? Indespensible? We've had a game and half out of him. Potential, yes. Indespensible, we'll wait and see.

As for Barton - no. Been flapping his lips without thinking and also had some shockers last year. Punched an opposition player against Blackburn. Buckled under the pressure of captaincy against Villa and had a terrible game, shouted at players and seemed to blame them for his wayward passing.

your not far wrong there cabaye. but i just feel that tim krul has more to offer to the team in the long term than barton. while barton is influential. he is not the be all and end all of the squad i feel. i really do think that whatever he does, it can be replaced

has it been done before = yes,
did you borrow it from someone else = yes
do you have an imagination = unlikely
was it funny = no chance

in summary must do better

yes dad. sorry dad
edit: yes it has been done before. as has this article
no i didnt borrow it from someone else.
yes i do have imagination
dont care if anyone else found it funny

For a club like ours if we lose players such as those mentioned we would struggle to replace them for a fair price, if joey walks next year we'd have to spend 10 million ish - (guess) to get a decent replacement.

As for Hatem he was an absolute steal - 5 mill or so. so for what he has I think that is indespensible.
