I know that a thread was created a little while ago, but just wanted more clarity on the situation. Now, I write this as Croatia have just scored, but with Brazil being favorites to win, we would be faced with the strange prospect of the World Cup winning goalkeeper being resigned to the bench behind Green. Why exactly did Cesar nor play last year? Heard all sorts of stuff like: contract limitations, he didn't want to play in championship etc. Anyone know for sure? I for one would like to see Green keep the #1 shirt as he has earned it. But IF we keep Cesar, would he play? Look to leave? Keep him? Cos if he did win, he would never sit on the bench at a little club like ours... Or do we look at the fact that most Brazillean keepers are just a bit ****e? .......
Well hopefully if Brazil do well, and Julio also does well, we will be inundated with offers. Problem solved. If however, he doesnt do so well, surely someone will make an offer ?? Anyway in that scenario Green need not worry about his place. So either way, Green will be first choice.
I think we left him out because we wanted his £80k/week wages off our books, and he didn't want to go anywhere because he wanted the £80k/week wages in his pocket. That said, I think if we'd wanted to play him he would have turned out for us.
I recall how exotic Felix the Brazilian keeper used to look compared to Peter Hucker, how surreal it is now.
There might be a significant amount of his wages based on appearances. That would explain his absence.
Incredibly dodgy goalkeeper. Got away with it big time tonight. Essentially, his appearance fee is so big that even if he was suited to English football, which he clearly isn't because he's a completely soft tart, it's so much cheaper to not pick him.
Hopefully, he does well enough to get off our books for good. He was part of the 'mercenaries group' which poisoned our team / club. I still remember his opening comments after signing with us ................ I want to win the PL ( or words to that effect )with QPR. To me, that was a red flag moment, so too was him being picture in an opposition shirt. It just showed his head was never with the club, it was just where ever the money trail landed. We don't need him, nor do we want him. He is not a team player. We have turned things around in just one season and are slowing building a team who want to play together, rather than a team who get paid together.
Sorry, but i still stand by the opinion that he was outstanding in his first half season for us and was rightly almost MOM every game. Go back and read the posts if you are unsure. im not sure why he "suddenly became crap" or what went on behind closed doors (as is no-one else on here) but something obviously forced him to give up on a defence that was absolutely attrociouis protected by a midfield that was the worst in the Prem by a mile. Not sure i could maintain any intrest playing alongside those players either. To say he was crap is just pure wrong. im sure everybody on here complemented him when he first played for us ! Short memories i think
Not really. My memory of his gutless performances outweighs the fact he was a good shot-stopper for a few months.
The way I look at Keepers is for every outstanding save they make that average ones couldn't, its cancelled out by a clanger. Cesar had some excellent games for us and some awful ones. They more or less evened themselves out. So overall I'd say he was average. He looked a bit flaky again tonight. Hopefully he'll improve and have a good tournament and someone will come in with an offer.
Mate, thats your opinion and fair enough, but personally i dont think calling the man "who almost single handedly kept us in the prem during our first season" a "good shot stopper for a few months" is quite right. If not for him we'd have been relegated before Xmas in our first season back up. But then again thats just my opinion and i really cant be bothered to go looking for links to old posts. Each to thier own i suppose
He was the best shot stopper I have ever seen for a few months but even during that period he was dodgy at corners
Listening to the commentary last night aroung the Croation goal that probably should have stood, you don't want to hear the word 'flapping' about any goalie in the World Cup least of all the Brazilian one. He was an odd mixture of brilliance and unbelievably absurd rubbish. I'm afraid people tend to remember the negatives and my foremost memory is of him losing us the Villa game that we were doing ok in before Cesar capitulated single handedly. I will be amazed if he is not gone in the summer since I feel certain Harry thinks he is not the 'right sort'
Nope Cesar got a little contact prior to the flap ... clear foul and good decision IMO ... He was however out committed No idea what happened at QPR but he remains a top goalkeeper IMO and ahead of Green everytime for me ... if he stays Not his fault he was attracted maybe by a good contract for a top keeper? With Queens on this ... He is an asset for our club ..... where do you think TF wants to take QPR? .... start thinking big for a start .... many on here have no idea where we will end up if it all works out .... QPR a big london based club... wake up
Really?....please explain what other player that delivered in the Prem league makes you say that roller...?!! Dont think we had another that did, but if you know better then please enlighten us
I believe that Cesar didn't play as they were expecting him to be sold and Harry wanted to keep a settled team with Green in goal. I remember Cesar's agent saying that he was happy to leave for less money elsewhere as long as he had a 2 year contract.
Oddball, you were the very one who was at pains to state the importance of team spirit and momentum when we last went up. You were right. The team was dismantled and from then on it was only a matter of time before we went back down. If Green was dropped for Cesar this season it would do a lot of damage IMO. Redknapp singled out Green as being one of the three "leaders" we have in the dressing room. What signal would that send out to the rest if he was binned for a bloke that was laughing and joking when Wigan practically relegated us last time round? Green is not a very good Goalkeeper, that's true. I never feel comfortable with him on the field. He's always a spill or a terrible pass/clearance away from disaster. But then Cesar's no better in this regard. So it comes down to keeping the promotion-winning team and mentality together, for me. I'm surprised you've changed your opinion on that from three years ago Odders mate.
