Shame we won't get any money for him if he goes. Gets a neutral feeling from me. A handy utility bench/squad player.

Thought you ****ers have always insisted that none of the Sunderland squad was ever good enough to get into your team?

Now some will be ****ing horses off, over the thought of an average ginger on a freebie.

Aye, you can tell they'll be doing U-turns left right and centre, saying that he's our best player...

It'd be sad to see Colback go, especially on a free, but to be fair if we sign Benega instead I think that'll ease the pain slightly...

He can pass??? <yikes> Burn the heathen!

No in all honesty, he will be a back up player for us. He is solid but nothing special (regardless of whether he signs or not).

    ^This.

I'm not sure he will be coming to us as the source is the chronicle who have hardly been the most reliable lately when it comes to us. I wouldn't be surprised to see him still at your place next season.

I'd be pleased if we did sign him as I think he is a better squad player than we have had in Gosling and he will be more committed than the likes of Marveaux. Where we will run into difficulties would be if the board saw him as a replacement for Cabaye, which he clearly isn't. I'm hoping that we will still sign a good creative midfielder regardless of whether we sign Colback or not. Hoping, but not holding my breath.....

I have seen a few of you say he is better than Anita. I would disagree but then again I have not seen that much of Colback (are they even the same type of player, Anita is a creative type really). I rate Anita highly and is stifled by Pardew's negative tactics. Under Pards, you are right. Colback would be better given his (supposed) style.

Pardew does not like players with flair and the ability to beat a man. Hence the ostracising of Marveaux and HBA. They both deserve better than what they are getting with that joker.

    Only sideways or backwards :D

I've noticed the press are trying to build up the Wear to Tyne angle but fact is he's not worth the fuss they're trying to create, evident from the comments section in the articles. It's all a bit of a meh transfer.

If he stays then I'm happy as he becomes a saleable asset and allows us execute our overhaul more gradually which would be a good thing imo, If he goes I know we've lost an averge player but no big deal and his wages are freed up to help us replace him.

It just shows how far Newcastle have fallen since the days they decided Bobby Robson wasn't good enough for them.

Clutching at the 'he might but Rangers and sell to the richest man on earth' straw is an indication of their plight.

Getting all interested about signing a decent player, on a free, is another.

I was really frightened they'd win summat when Robson was there, Colback wouldn't have quite the same effect.

That would be the funniest thing I'd ever seen if Mike Ashley said "Well now we've replaced Cabaye we don't need any more in midfield" if you lot sign COlback! I'd actually laugh my arse off at that!!

I think it's telling that I'm more gutted about the fact we're losing an academy product for nothing, rather than losing a class player.

On his day, he was great, generally though he was too conservative. If he is going to Newcastle to be a back-up player I'd be very disappointed

Personally, I don't think this is as bad as some people believe.

If we offered Colback a new deal at the start of last season under PDC, and he refused, what were our options?

Sell him, with a year left for what ....... £2/3 million? Then we'd have had to bring in someone else in for the same price on higher wages.

Or keep him, on low wages, for a vital season in which he played a part in keeping us up and thereby saving mebbe's £40 million?

I'd go for Plan B every time.

Just saying that, with the number of players to come through the academy and be of decent quality, it's just a shame to lose one of the few for nothing

good point, well made! i couldnt give a **** if he went to the town! they'd be strengthening the squad, rather than improving the team! if he was to stay, i'd be hoping that we'd stil be looking to get a player in who would easily keep him out of our team!
