Who are these obvious names? Koeman seems to me to be one of the most qualified people for the job considering his record as a player and a manager. Chelsea appointing Mourinho again was lacking imagination, would you say it was a bad appointment?

    Profile says West Ham.

Lacking imagination maybe. But when you want a particular kind of manager to fit the way you run the club can restrict your options.
Moyes Might fit some criteria, but style of football would be lacking.
There might not be another Pochettino available the way he was at the time.
Maybe Koeman was of interest to us when we got Pochettino but he was not ready to leave Feyenoord.

You can't always find a promising manager ready to leave the club he's already leading.

Why is it lacking imagination? It's more imaginative than hiring Di Matteo, Laudrup, Dyche, Mackay, etc. would be.

I know, how about we bring in Roger Lemerre, the current manager of Tunisian side Etiole du Sahel? That'd be imaginative enough.

agree those candidates would be merrygoround material.

I can't think of any Pochettinos knocking about but then again i'd never heard of him when we signed him up.

Yakin is closest and that guy who is on a year's leave.

I think i'm happier with Koeman than Yakin based on extended reading.

In all honesty Yakin comes across as a bit of a knob. Nothing to do with his ability, I know, but I don't wanna be managed by a knob. Tuchel and Jemez were the best I'd looked at for carrying on the Pochettino style.

No, but apparently we haven't been imaginative enough so now we're using our imaginations.

Koeman is not lacking imagination at all. Not many would have thought of him straight away, but it seems that Saints knew what they wanted, and he certainly fits the bill (experience of European football, successful manager and player, good contacts, emphasis on youth). He is the ideal choice out of the names listed.
