Disagree AKCJ, if he's given enough seasons then he's more than capable of getting 10+ goals in the PL. I think he may even get 4-5 in his first season alone. I'd of rather paid £7m for Ulloa than for Long but I'd have Rhodes over any of them.
I guess it is all down to opinion, Ross doesn't score penalties so that hasn't skewed his goal tally at all although very very good with a freekick. Ulloa can be very one dimensional imo. and think you guys should be aiming higher for the money quoted. Rhodes is another that deserves the step up imo. Has scored goals consistently for quite a few seasons now, can follow the example of Ricky Lambert in how to step up the divisions I think.
Wouldn't surprise me if he literally followed Lamberts path to Southampton, looks like they will have the funds when they lose Lambert, Lalana and Shaw.
He won't easily surpass that. That's not to say he's ****, but he's got a 1 in 3 record in the Championship for Leeds, what makes you think he'll do that in the Premier League? He's had two good seasons to make that record look rosy too. Sorry mate, he's a very good Championship player but I wouldn't want him to be our go-to-guy should we be in need of a goal next season. 10 goals is a hell of a lot and would represent a fantastic season for any newly promoted side's striker.
Hardly 2 good seasons... He scored 24 goals for cardiff from the wing in the champ before joining us, he then had a poor first season with us but he didn't fit into the system whatsoever with us only playing 1 up front with very attacking wide wingers. After that he was our top scorer, then top assist maker the next season and the season after almost 30 goals and also top assists. And a lot of those games he has played on the wing and in the midfield (including this season just gone which he managed almost 30 goals), had he been played upfront for his entire Leeds career he would have so many more goals, I don't know why I'm trying to convince you but just thought I'd put it out there, imo. he is a more rounded and accomplished striker than Ulloa and better than what you have currently.
As we always say boys ... it's all about opinions ... for me I'd want Ulloa before Rhodes, McCormack or Le Fondre ... frankly I just feel that he is the best of the bunch ... I'd question why none of the other 3 has been hotly pursued by Prem clubs previously? ... Ulloa has more physicality and we are going to need to be combative in this first (hopefully of many) season in the Prem ... I got to see Wilfred Bony a few times last season and Ulloa has many similarities (indeed I think he is a better player technically) and Bony after a slow start proved a right handful for premiership defenders ..
McCormack would be top of my list personally, even though I think that Ulloa is the only striker last season that really outplayed our defenders, that said, when you consider the game it was in, I think I probably could! However, I'd much rather we sign someone young and obscure (preferably French-speaking!)
It is all about opinions or, even more accurately, guessing, because until these players get a shot at the prem we can't know for sure, no matter how fiercely we argue. This is part of the problem for me - I'd like to see us linked with more players that do have experience. Campbell was one, but his record isn't great. Assuming we don't spend ridiculous amounts, we are going to have to take a gamble one way or another. Can Nuge and Vardy cut it? Do we sign untested strikers? Or sign strikers with experience but without great records? Time to trust in Nige again...
Seems unlikely that tight-fisted Ashley would be in for a Championship striker for that much when he hasn't spent anything for nearly 2 years, though you'd imagine most players would choose Newcastle over us (although at the rate they're going we're not a much worse proposition these days!).
According to the merc we won't be making another bid for Ulloa Sensible as the the price was getting too high
I think he means in terms of a huge financial gamble that didn't/won't pay off. As I've already said this is also my stance on Ulloa. £3m and I'd have took a punt though.
Sky Sports were reporting that Sunderland were after him a few days back too, don't know if that's been mentioned here. I think we need to go for someone young or based abroad to get real value for money. Going to have to be a gamble!
