As a real student of the juveniles boil wasn't it interesting to see KOOL KOMPANY win the listed race in Ireland today. I tipped Merdon Castle to beat him at Windsor a fortnight ago and that one must be very good to have got so close. He is an ugly beggar KOOL KOMPANY and Hannon snr reckons they got him cheap due mainly to his looks. Surely Ascot bound.

Kool takes War Envoy scalp in Listed scrap

Alfred Nobel Rochestown (C&G) Stakes (Listed) 2yo, 6f

KOOL KOMPANY showed admirable tenacity to hang on for victory from Godolphin's Toscanini and Ballydoyle's War Envoy, the odds-on favourite.

War Envoy, a Naas maiden winner in April, had been 7-1 second-favourite for the Coventry Stakes at Royal Ascot but was pushed out to 12-1 following an unexpected reversal.


Kool Kompany came in the other way, with BetVictor slashing his Ascot odds to 10-1 (from 20-1).
BetVictor also cut The Great War into 3-1 (from 7-2). However, the horse who finished runner-up to the Coventry favourite in his last outing at the Curragh, Bwana, could only finish sixth here, about five lengths behind the winner.

It was a fine performance from the Richard Hannon-trained 7-2 winner, ridden with strength by stable back-up Pat Dobbs.

Leading the field, he faced down the challenge of both Toscanini (7-1) and War Envoy (8-15f), who emerged from the field as the sole challengers for the victory.

Despite having plenty of time to make their attack on the front neither could find a way past the Hannon horse showing more fight than Carl Froch on the rail.

"He was keen through the early part of the race. He had to dig deep. He didn't want to lose and has a great attitude. He just kept finding for me," said Dobbs.
 
Having watched the race back a few times now War Envoy almost threw Joseph off at the Furlong pole when jinking out to the right, he lost a length in the process as he was just a neck down when it happened, O'Brien was struggling with his hands at the 2 pole as well and couldn't get his stick right, I'm taking nothing away from the winner or 2nd but I would still pick War Envoy over them front 2 if they meet again and I'm certain he would win.

Well done on Beach Belle Gazboy, did it very easily and very much one to look forward too.

Ha well to be honest Stick I do feel like I'm getting a handle on the E year olds this year as that's all I have been betting in!!! Kool is a very good horse and if you look at every run there's winners in behind everytime..... I was very impressed by yours today though stick as I regard Free Entry quite highly

Just watched over the racing for today and i have got to say....what an appalling ride Joseph O'Brien gave Giovanni Boldini over at Naas today!! Wouldn't be the first time mind.
 
Ya I'd tend to agree Brough it seemed he placed the horse in a position to get in as much trouble as possible and made a hames of it...on the other hand although it was just a point and steer job how impressive was Due Dilligence?..made some useful sorts look very ordinary today.
