    Lads (and indeed lasses),

if I am being a cantenkerous old twat then feel free to say so, but if you are going to go to the effort of start a daily thread, could you perhaps take 3 minutes to at least open up with a few words about the days racing, for example:

"Racing on ****day comes from Newmarket, Newbury and Chester on the flat with jumps racing from Stratford and Sligo".

It only takes a minute or 2 to type this up and at least it gives a nice introduction to the days racing.

As I said, I might be picky, but starting a daily thread with: "Horse xyz in the 3.00 at Newcastle" is a little bit unadventurous isn't it?

    Thx
    Lol

That's not how I roll Oddy.

I take the comments on board but will most likely continue the way I do.

Almost poetic Ron. Thank you for taking those 3 minutes, you'll feel a better person for it in the morning <ok>

With all due respect Odddy, when I have spent 3 to 4 hours studying the racecards and then share my thoughts on here for free I really don't feel the need to tell anyone where the next days racing is coming from! If they want to know.....www.racingpost.com

But a daily racing thread is about the days racing surely? Not just about someone's fancy?

I used to have a real passion for this forum because it was possible to exchange views and thoughts on racing - from the 3.20 at Bangor to the role of the BHA- All I'm trying to do is encourage people to write a little bit more and post some thoughts and opinions, rather that just the same boring old posts like:

"3.20 Goodwood Titfart - will like the ground"

followed by either a "boom" (wins) // "oh well place money" (placed) or "disappointing effort" (beaten out of site).

I mean, that is just about as interesting as posting a picture of my morning's dump isn't it?

We are the most intelligent beings on this planet, surely we are capable of more than that? Karakontie, the French 2000 GNS winner looking to double up in their Derby, opposed by Dante winner The Grey Gatsby.

I'll shut up now, I'm sure you're all watching the boxing anyway <laugh>

Hate to say it Oddy, but I do agree- If you start a daily thread then you should put up a little preview of the days racing, bcoz it is the "Daily Thread" otherwise it should be called - peoples day picks - or something like that <laugh> im sorry everyone!! :)

I suppose I agree with Oddy in that an opening paragraph at the start summarising the day's meetings would be how I would like a daily thread to begin. However in fairness to the 2 fellas you're referring to (I'm guessing) Bob and stick probably provide more winners than most on here so there's plenty would argue they'd rather see winners up than eloquent English!

If I may be slightly more pedantic, to go further, in an ideal world I'd like the thread to be updated by the thread creator with others tips and their placings. This is what old boy famouswise done here and on BBC606. Of course it's hardly practical for anybody as most I'm assuming are working or not at the computer all day but it would be nice very occasionally like big Saturday racing or Cheltenham where perhaps people are going to be on the forum the majority of the day. BTW where did Famouswise vanish to? I think the way it is now it's so easy to miss people's winners, I suppose that's where the booms are useful <laugh>

That would be nice Beefy but I doubt anyone has the time to do that. It would also be nice if the previous days winners were published but again I suspect it's not something that could be maintained on a regular basis.

Completely agree Ron. It would be nice once in a bluemoon though on a rare day where someone had the time and was online all day. I've seen it done here one day, not that long ago, may have been red on a day off I think.

I think Cyc also used to update the thread header with everyone's tips when he started one. But I doubt anyone could keep up when there could be several tips going in on every race of the day.

The difference is that the Daily thread used to be the "responsibility" of one person in the old 606 days. But that could never be sustained forever.

To give everyone more of a sense of belonging I decided long ago to encourage everyone to have a go at starting a thread rather than it be "owned" by a single member. On the whole I think that has worked but it does, of course, mean there will be differences as to how the thread is started; but that in itself can make it more interesting.

Morning Ron & Beefy, I feel the sooner the forums favourite tipsters get their selections up the better, as I guess most of us want to get on at best odds. I have a couple of hours of free time daily so I could set up the next days thread by say 12 noon the day before with a list of Meetings, Going reports & Banter?

Regarding previous day's winners, what info would you want posting, I am good at maths & was a Crookmaker in a previous life <laugh>, so any statistical work would be appreciated.

    Good Luck:emoticon-0150-hands
