It's nice to be the club that can 'take advantage' of these situations rather than the one getting shafted.

Tan is currently demonstrating his commitment to making this work, he is strongly backing another manager rather than expecting him to make do with the expensively assembled squad already here. He's moving quickly and backing Ole.

Next season it looks like we'll have one of the strongest squads in the division and will be committed to a swift return (doesn't mean it will happen) whilst some other recently promoted sides are having fire sales attempting to fight off administration or attempting to stay in the championship on the least resources possible whilst the chairman pockets the cash (Blackpool). I know which of those situations I'd rather even if the cost is another couple of seasons in red shirts.

I suspect some of the recent spend is in anticipation of money coming back in from the sale of some of our higher profile players but it is good to see us going into the market early and signing players of some quality. That will all help the bonding process when pre-season starts.

Clearly if we lose the likes of Caulker, Marshall, Medel and maybe Mutch then further reinforcements are needed (it could be that Guido has been signed in anticipation of Mutch's departure) plus strengthening in defensive midfield and another speedy winger. However, I can see a few more leaving us (if only on loan in August) to make room for others incoming and to free up the wages bill.

Agreed but signings already committed to mean Tan will have to fund any of the high earners that stay. I don't think he'll force Ole to sell anyone so any sales should be on our terms whilst allowing for any release clauses.

Le Fondre isn't bad at your level but wasn't he frozen out at Reading? Might be wrong about that. But couple of things wouldn't make me happy reading that:

"“It was never my intention to leave.... my family is settled here......... the gaffer didn’t want me to go....the club didn’t want to lose me but they had no option......They couldn’t afford to keep me with the tax bill looming.”

So clearly nobody wanted this move, not even the player. No "dream move", no flattering comments about CCFC only about Ole being a boyhood hero. Not the right mindset being shown from your newest signing imo. Not good.

Or a bit of honesty? If he'd wanted to stay he could have easily, then left on a free next year.

That was a Reading paper, he was saying the right things for that audience. The whole dream move, I've always dreamt of playing for this club **** wears a bit thin to be honest. When it's Man U, Liverpool, Real Madrid perhaps but when Scunthorpes new signing starts trotting that **** out.......

Le Fondre has a PL record of a goal every 2.8 games (with some of those games being off the bench). How many 27 year olds with that record available for £1m? I'd much rather have him than FC in my squad and I'm surprised none of the lower PL sides were in for him.

    That's football DB.

Reading skint. They had to cash in at a reasonable price.

No reason why he and his family won't be happy in Cardiff. A beautiful capital city, close to the sea, excellent shopping and public parks and the wonderful Gower coast only 90 minutes away. A lot more to offer than boring Reading - oh, and a much better football team.

I don't get he point of your post Dragonborn, unless you're trying to wind posters up over here over our signing of Le Fondre.

The apparent lack of understanding of media quotes for a local audience given by players leaving clubs demonstrates something. Either complete naivity on the subject which I can't believe, or just projecting the comments made as being negative toward the buying club for the sake of it.

Did anyone expect Le Fondre to say he was glad he was leaving? Wanting to stay and his family being settled there was a fair enough thing to say for local consumption, but players move and their families generally go with them. I'd expect him to say much the same thing to our local press when he eventually leaves as he inevitably will.

He doesn't have to uproot his family as Reading is only 110 miles down the M4 so his daughter could stay at the same school if she's happy there .

In my car it's 90 mins on a bad day - in his car using top of the range satnav/snoopers etc 55 mins.

I'm sure CCFC would source him a reasonable flat or a hotel in the CAPITAL for 4 days a week

**** me. Posters take my comments and respond to them properly, oldsparkey but you have to post that tripe in your first line. Why don't you "get the point"? Of course you do.

You're unbearable at times. Not every observation is a wind up and stop being so damned prickly. If he was coming to us I'd be saying the same thing.

I agree with the other comments made btw.

So you are just naive then. <ok>

BTW, there was nothing wrong in my first line - I said I didn't get the point of your post. You've now cleared it up.

How many strikers do we actually need?

I really hope Mr. Tan is not instructing anybody to get a truck load of people who can core and Ole is actually the man wanting these players. It just seems strange at the moment.

he's a very good signing, he scored goals at PL level, and is proven at championship level.

now we need to concentrate on getting the dead wood out….

oldsparkey: Hook was baited and a little tiddler was duly caught - I call that a success, butty. :)

But as you're on about not understanding my pretty clear, unequivocal and erudite posts that others have no difficulty understanding (mainly because they are so clear, unequivocal and erudite) perhaps you can tell me what your comment below means.

"I think it's you that needs help pal, and you'll nothing like you need on this board."

    ??? <laugh>

Anyway, I'll leave you to it. Scrolling down looking for your link is a pain and really can't be bothered. You have a nice season now y'hear? :)

    <ok>
