Was having a discussion with a friend about loyalty etc amid all this transfer speculation. Obviously Le Tiss cropped up, but we were debating which player has had a similar effect on the fans since his retirement. Lallana, akin to MLT, has obviously been here his whole career, but Rickie seems to really be a fans favourite. We were torn between which one was more popular and I thought I'd post a poll to gauge the feeling on here. Even if neither leave it would be good to see the results!
Oh Christ this is difficult. Rickie is a Saints legend but if I had to choose one to stay it would be Lallana hands down. I think this comes down to who I would be most gutted to see leave and, sorry Rickie, it's Lallana.
Two different questions here really. I have never loved a player as much as I love Rickie (sorry Tiss), but I understand him going...we must keep Lallana (especially if we lose Rickie).
Yep and if Lallana and Shaw really are his mates, and the club HAVE to sell only one player, they should agree for Rickie to have his dream and they should agree to stay (if that makes sense!)
I voted for Rickie, as I said on the other thread he's well up there with Matt Le Tissier and Ron Davies as one of my all-time favourite Saints players. But like others have said, Adam is marginally the more irreplaceable of the two, but only marginally. And sorry Tom, but I don't see why the poll has to be public, surely people can express their views privately if they want?
Had to vote for Rickie. His contribution for Saints over the last 5 years has just been sensational. I'm delighted for him that he will get the chance to play for his boyhood club, but that won't stop me feeling gutted about losing him.
Ok, that's fine, but IMO it would have been interesting to see who voted for who. And it's the sort of poll where there's no wrong answer - there are perfectly valid reason for voting for either Rickie or Adam, it's just a matter of opinion.
Strewth you know how to split loyalties don't you? I have voted for Lallana simply because he has been here since a boy, if either left both would be hard to replace. In the popularity stakes there is not much to chose between them. Every one loves a prolific goal scorer but lalla has the edge for me.....
Lambert's been a more important player for us over the last five years, but Lallana is a more important player now. If we can only keep one (and I sure hope we can), it has to be Lallana.
Adam is more important now but he had only just begun to be a favourite for me in growing into that captaincy this season. Rickie still favourite. (though neither is necessarily my outright favourite int he squad)
Lambert for me. Watching him grow through the leagues has been great. For whatever reason I've never felt any great affection for Lallana as a person and I'm not as big a fan of him as some are.
As I said, I don't see why it's necessary, but it's your poll so I'll have a go... Any other mods watching might like to nudge me in the right direction!
It's strange that Lambert may have more of a relationship with the supporters than someone like Lallana who has been here virtually his whole career. In terms of quality you'd have to say Lallana, but as a fans' favourite I think Lambert just edges it.
So now we know the real reason why you were reluctant to do it in the first place - you don't have a bloody clue how to!
