We will end up getting a humping every week unless we strengthen. Who can we bring in to tighten things up without breaking the bank ?. This will make or break our season me thinks.:emoticon-0108-speec

De-fence I have chosen should keep a few clean sheets..... I'll get my coat.;)

I like it, the only problem i can see is when we change ends at half time................ Upson is available on a free, if his wages aren t too high he could be worth a punt. Only last season Arsenal were considering paying big money to get him back... A back up for Ruddy could be good, just in case he can t cut it.
<I am aware i can t spell properly but can t change the title now> DOH.....

I agree it was the weakest area last season. They were good but well too relaxed and casual at times.

Lambert will get someone in and not make the major **** up off the century like Worthy did... Simon Charlton 32 years old, had the fitness of a pub league player and a colossal 5'8 in height, I know Puyol and Cannavaro are hardly giants but in comparison it's like being given the keys to a Vauxhall Nova whilst everyone else is driving around in Porsches.

Worthington axed Malky and Roberts, two of our best players and bought in loads of iffy Scandanavians and old timers.

Assuming a loan deal would be best for Rudd's development, the way I see it, our defence looks like this (in true Morinho style)

GK Ruddy
GK VACANCY
RB Martin
RB De Laet
LB Tierney
LB Drury
CB Ward
CB VACANCY
CB Barnett
CB Whitbread

Thats the easy part done, the tricky part is who should be on the shortlist!

CB- Personally, even if he is interested I'm not keen on Upson's wages and likely ego. A good championship player might be our best bet- Luke Chambers maybe?. I also liked the sound of that Swiss player we were linked with (von Bergen?), but sounds like thats been ruled out by the club.

GK- Westwood has gone to Sunderland, all quiet on the Forster front. It will be really tricky to bring in a player with more to offer than Rudd that wont be expecting to walk into the first team. I am all out of ideas! I really rate Lewis, but would he be willing to risk a season sitting on the bench?

Axing Malky was a fatal error, it was obvious that team needed strong characters. We needed quick centre backs back then, I'm confident our current set have some pace on them. The whole area needs some strength in depth.

I m pretty confident Martin and Tierney will be able to cope, Zack is pretty good but we need to cover CB and RB . Barnett and Ward are OK but we didn t exactly keep many clean sheets last season. I desperately hope Ruddy is good enough but if he takes a knock or suspension we are reliant on Rudd.

GIven Wenger's history of buying defenders I'm not sure that's the most glowing reference...

Luke Chambers has been linked again. Personally, I think he would be a good addition.

De Laet is primarily a CB who can also play LB or RB. His pace will be useful wherever he plays and I wonder if he might play as the holding midfielder when needed. Clever move on Lambert's part if he can.

De Laet should be good cover for injuries but we need a no nonsense ball player Italian type CB who can take the panic stations hoofing out of the box play out of our game.
