Just seen on twitter, will update as and when. Maybe he can reimburse the club for RvW out of his leaving pay
that's a blow as we've had decent (caveat - on the whole) transfer activity since he's been with us another vacancy!
Slightly odd. It does confirm he was "Director of recruitment" though, a role that now needs filling again.
Most of the signings have been pretty good over the last few seasons. 2 big (and pretty vital) appointments still to be made this summer + some decent buying and selling.
That's the bit that mystifies me - if he's leaving, leave now, rather than stick around until the end of the transfer window - in which I very much doubt he'll have any input?
We're his signings that good though? Snodgrass, Redmond and Olsson we already knew about, Fer and RVW have been pretty big disappointments. Tettey has been good, wouldn't have heard of him before he was spotted so that's one success I guess.
He's been at Norwich since 2010, so he had a hand in all of them. I personally would not agree that Fer has been a big disappointment. Not by a long shot. His attitude has been disappointing, but even when having a poor patch of form he made our midfield tick over - it was no surprise to me that his injury coincided with the relegation nail being firmly hammered into our coffin. EDIT: sorry, he did leave in 2011 and then came back with Hughton in 2012, but Redmond and Olsson were bought in 2013
johnson, bassong, turner, snoddy, whits were surely are decent too, on the whole, the previous summers signings
suspect he's leaving at that time to stop him helping other teams. might be joining chelsea from what i heard a while back - not sure if that's still the case. overall done a good job for the club
*Earth calling carrabuh* NCFC are on the verge of requiring a new director of recruitment - maybe you should fire you C.V. across. Being serious, it would be interesting to see us with players on the books who were more technical than physical. Maybe that's the way Adams will go? Fingers crossed.
Oh I wasn't saying they were here when he joined, more that we knew of their abilities and any of us could have suggested that they would be good signings - similarly with Bassong, Turner and Johnson. I personally think Fer has been disappointing, early in the season I proclaimed that he could well turn be the best player to ever wear the shirt, but he never really hit those heights as the season went on and largely looked uninterested since Christmas when he has been fit. If his attitude is a problem then surely that is a fault in the scouting, no? Surely the role involves more than spotting a player's footballing ability?
Right, sorry, misunderstanding. I suppose disappointment is a subjective term and relative to expectations - so yes on your measure I suppose he was disappointing. However, from a scouting POV, I'd say he was broadly successful in that we are most likely going to sell him for more than we bought him and he contributed to the season a lot. Which is much more than can be said for RvW... As for whether attitude is a scouting question, yes you're probably right. Though it is also the hardest thing to spot (in terms of his attitude changing over the season). Scouting is a very unreliable art and as we know players fail for myriad reasons, not necessarily poor scouting. Even Olsson could well have failed and conversely I was suspect of Johnson and Turner (particularly the latter's injuries) and yet I would say that was good scouting and a success. So I would say, on a broad hit rate, Chester has done a good job. He is unfortunate though, that his record will be tarnished, and to an extent justifiably so, by RvW.
leroy fer has 'turkish top flight' written all over him, if you know what i mean. somewhere he can play for a big club but 'coast' along. so much potential but doesn't seem to have the drive to get the best out of himself, or at least he hasn't so far.
I think with Fer he's reached the middle and thinks it's the top. Just doesn't seem to want to really make the effort more like I'll just tick over here until a big club comes in for me, thanks.
