With a rejected bid for Maynard and an accepted bid for Craig MAcKail-Smith it seems as though we intend to splash a few million on a striker...obviously.

Baring in mind we will be spending £1.5M on a keeper and so far £750K on a LB can we afford to buy both Maynard and CMSmith? Likely to cost around £7M.

Could we get better for £7M??

We still need another CM, Winger, LB and CB so how much will all that come to?

We are at the bare bones in defence so we'd probs need 2 CB and another LB.

Will we use the loan market again for the 'back-ups'?

IMO CMSmith would be a good buy at £2M and Maynard I would accept at £4M eventhough we're paying over the odds for a player at end of contract and with previous injury etc.

We have also bid for the North Korean at Bochum apparently. What about Nugent? Derbyshire? Yakubu?

We need a TOP CLASS winger!!
We need a dirty/hardnut in the middle
    We need a pacey LB
    And
We need a brute at CB

    Schmeichel/ Weale
    Peltier/?
    Bamba/Tunchev/?/?
    ?/Berner

    Dyer/?/Moussa
    King/Abe/Wellens/?
    Gallagher/?

    Vassel/Waghorn/Howard/Schlupp/?/?

Agree to an extent, but i think wingers will take a back seat atm, due to lack of defence and a 20 a season striker

I think Wellens plays this role well, Abe, maybe notso much.

Agree, we do need at least 2 more wing-backs imo

Tunchev needs to proove himself, Hobbs needs to stay, or yes, we will need some solid central defender who will dig their heels in when the going gets tough.

We still got Oakley in MF too? If Svens still going to play 4-3-3, then theres not going to be much call for wingers.

I want Maynard but 4M is as high as i would go. But offer 3M with 1M in add ons.

I dont rate Mackail-Smith at this level and if we did buy him i wouldnt want us to pay any more then 1M

    This is stupid money.

A player who has never played in the prem, has a bad injury past and 1 year on his contract and they want 5M

And CMS has struggled at this level and they want 3.5M

Maynard is still on hoilday so we might have to wait until he returns until we get anywhere with that deal. If we are willing to pay 3M for CMS what the hell is Kyle Naughton's price?

We not prepared to pay for Naughton but we will pay 3M for a league 1 striker. If Fryatt is only worth 1.5M then Mackail-Smith is worth around 500K

I really hope this CMS is just rumour and nothing else

It seems like the price for all players especially strikers has gone up this year with no apparent bargains. Every team in the Championship wants success and know how competitive it will be this season. Quite a few teams seem willing to invest heavily to give themselves the best chance. When there are so many teams showing interest it's definitely a sellers market.

Regarding Naughton I don't think it's an issue that we are not willing to pay the price. If there's interest shown from a Premier League team (QPR) that's where his first preference will be regardless of whether we match any financial package.

Apparently talksport have just said we have a 4M bid plus Martyn Waghorn for Nicky Maynard accepted.

Hopefully Waggy is a loan but i reckon he will go. Shame

    Exactly right on both counts.

Yes Maynard is overpriced at £5m, but I'm afraid you won't get proven Championship quality cheap in this day and age. We've got to decide whether we are going to play it safe (as Derby did last season) or go for it. £5m was a lot under Mandaric - is it a lot under Top? We aren't exactly sure. As I've said it seems strange if we are willing to pay over the odds for CMS, but not Maynard. The thing is as you say it's a sellers market, and we should be taking advantage of that with the sales of Hobbs and Waghorn etc, both of which we wouldn't have even dreamed of letting go 12 months ago. Then again, we didn't help ourselves by announcing all the wealth we had.

Naughton I'm sure will be going to the Prem, probably QPR. I can't see him coming to us when he's got Prem offers.

Joe, it was no secret that we would need a lot of players this summer, in an ideal world we would get what you request and more. We arguably need 2 in most positions, we're buying over half a squad. I wouldn't say any position is a priority because all positions are equally important to our promotion push IMO.

in answer to your main question, we just have to hope we can afford everyone we need!
