I don't want Howe now, but "only doing as well as he is at Bournemouth because they're spending a lot of money" .... really PTF. I am disappointed in you. So none of it is down to him taking over a team about 17th in league 1, getting them promoted and doing well in the Championship against teams 20 times bigger than them and spending fortunes???

Depends on the expectations of each club. Jesting aside, Steve McClaren is a top coach, he was number 2 to Fergie during probably his best period and last season was number 2 to Redknapp and QPR where more organised. As a manager he has been hit and miss but if your fans are thinking about Howe, then Steve McClaren is also worth a mention.

They might see what has happened with MP and think here's a chance to get a name for myself like MP did and move to a bigger club on a big salary?

Fair enough, I don't think many of our fans are thinking about Howe though!

He did very well before the money as well, but would they have been promoted or as competitive in the championship without Demin's cash?

I really don't see us going for Howe at all. And after his Burnley experience, I'm not even sure he'd want the job.

But if that is the case, then in my view it would be very much going against the grain when it comes to managers in England outside of the top seven teams. Maybe I am biased, but I'd have thought that lots of those managers would be queuing up to replace Pochettino.

For example, I think Steve Bruce, Gus Poyet, Steve Clarke, Paul Lambert, Malky Mackay, and Chris Hughton would all jump at the chance - even though some of current PL managers, and others are only recently out of a PL job. (PS. This is not me advocating any single one of those managers. Just me saying that, outside of the managers of the top teams, I think we're a very attractive proposition to many British, or British-based, managers).

So it wasn't "only because they're spending lots of money" then?

Well that is always a risk taking on a good up and coming young manager; I certainly wouldn't not employ one just because he may leave.

Yeah. Unfortunately, does this executive group seem like the type to gamble on the next big thing in European footballing tactics when there are so many experienced hands (who speak English!) to be had?

Wasn't MP offered a fantastic amount of money over a three year contract, in fact one of the better paid managers in prem.Be very surprised if he gets the same amount @ Spuds.

Les Reed is still there. Surely you don't believe Cortese identified Pochettino as a target all by himself?

This is very true. Les Reed was in Barcelona some weeks before and people speculated that we were watching Andreu Fontas.

It turns out we actually sent Les out there to go and have talks with Mauricio.

DTLW said that not only did Les Reed help identify Pochettino as a suitable appointment, he also went to Barcelona to meet with him personally.

I'm sure that he didn't. But we have a chairman who expressed surprise about how little football managers do during games. If we have Candidate A who has a proven track record at the Premier League level (and several firings, heh) or Candidate B whose primary qualification involves some tactical wizardry well beyond Krueger's expertise, which one do you think is more likely to appeal to him?

I could be wrong, but with the talk about stabilizing and consolidating our position, I'd be surprised if we gambled on someone whose CV consists of a couple good years with an unfashionable club in the Spanish or German leagues.
