There's some parts of Belgium and The Netherlands that are split up all over the place Baarle-Nassau and Baarle-Hertog, . Some houses are even split down (darn the middle for our Spuds friends) the middle.

How does that follow? I'm not saying I think it's likely, but only recently he was talking about leaving Ajax. Pochettino may have been Spurs' third choice but he was still ahead of de Boer on the list.

Do Saints fans honestly think appointing Eddie Howe is a step Forward <yikes>

Talk about making Lallana and Shaw etc want to stay!! I'm sorry but a team 8th in the Premier league does not show ambition by appointing a manager of Howe's calibre however well he's done at Bournemouth.

I had a discussion a while back about if Poch was to go and we all laughed it off without second thought when someone mentioned Howe, I honestly can't believe people are now considering him.

Watching the play off final, Steve McClaren's Derby side played a high pressing game with youth, no mention of him as he is a decent coach that went to Holland (sorry Netherlands) and won the league.

What we do know about media sounded replacements are that they will likely be only managers based in Britain as the vast majority of football experts/pundits based in this country have little to no knowledge of football outside of these shores. Thats not a criticism as the majority of fans(including myself) have little knowledge either.

Thankfully we have a few here who have a good knowledge of the game abroad and i'm hoping we get a coach who maintains our style of football. whether they come from home or abroad we need a coach with strong ideas and ideals. We are not a club who can bring in ready to go players. We have to invest in players with potential and nurture them into top premier league players.

I dont necessarily consider it a step forward, no. But I think with the players departing* this summer and manager departing, we will struggle to get anyone of Pochettino's calibre. However, if as Krueger has suggested, the club is keen to project an image of attacking football played by youth and British talent, Howe would make sense. I also think he deserves a crack at the top flight and will get it sooner rather than later.

    *seems likely

Compared to our high pressing game, I wouldn't even give Derby's style of play against QPR the time of day. Maybe I wasn't watching particularly hard, but I can't say that I noticed any of us, in them.

For a start, his contract would need to be paid off. If we aren't prepared to spend money on players (which guillem balague was quoted as MP's terms for staying here) then it is highly doubtful we will spend it buying a manager out of a contract.

Secondly, any ambitious young manager will now look at us and think; if pochettino can't fulfill his potential there then how can I? With our squad and position we should be an exciting proposition for a young manager, but the club has put itself into a position of looking very weak. It's hard to word this correctly but; It feels like we are now going to have to look at worse managers stepping up rather than managers of a similar calibre to us looking to progress.

Basically, if the board manage to pull off an appointment that pleases me, I will be surprised at this point. Although I wasn't sure when pochettino was appointed in the first place, so I guess I will just have to see what happens and keep supporting saints!

Youthful side, energetic, closing down in numbers and quick passing with quick movement. Derby have been receiving plenty of plaudits for their style of play and really the best manager outside of the PL (in England) is Steve McClaren, plus he has won a league title, won the league cup and done well in European competition. Plus was a superb number 2 to Fergie.

I like Eddie Howe and the way his sides play football. He did a decent job at Burnley despite us nicking there better players. Bournemouth were decent to watch last season and I think it would be the equivalent of Spurs fans turning their nose up at Pochettino to dismiss him.
I do agree that his appointment would not convince players who are close to departing to stay, but I think he would recruit well with the money at his disposal.

Why not Eddie Howe if Poch leaves?? He has managed to get an awful lot out of Bournemouth since his return and seems to be a manager who gets the best out of players. IMO we need to keep Lambert, Fonte and Kelvin Davis - they are the epitome of the Southampton dressing room and the strong personalities behind the scene. So Poch, as he has done,or the new manager needs to get them on board first and then we'll see progression. Wouldn't mind Lampard as well if he was to accept a drop in wages as he is still a class act and would be a fine example for young players to follow regarding fitness levels and attitude.

Maybe Spurs should have gone for him.

Failed at Burnley, and is only doing as well as he is at Bournemouth because they're spending a lot of money.

Lampard will surely go abroad (probably the MLS) if he goes anywhere.

We wont attract the very best manager, yes, but Eddie Howe would be a huge risk by the board who would already be under pressure. Theres managers out there far better suited to us than Howe is. Not taking away from the job hes done at Bournemouth

As number 2 to Redknapp? I would have been 100% behind that.

Really? I saw a team pass it and pass it and fail to break down a team that parked the bus down.... looked a little familiar :)

So your endorsement of him as a manager isn't quite as glowing as it first appeared.
