any team could win the league potentially. Look at Man City as an example - you just need stupendous purchasing by ridiculously wealthy people who don't mind losing the cash

but with FFP coming in this is no longer possible. This was why Cortese was against it and wanted to be able to invest in a business as he saw fit.

You don't have to spend as much as City did to win the league. Not all of their spending has been sensible or necessary.

I think it will be a great achievement if we roughly mirror last years performance but would be gladly proved wrong. However, I would add that the Premier League is fairly average at the moment and therefore the gap between player talent is not that great - just our squad is thinner than teams above us. However, with six/seven teams demanding Champions League football as a god-given right each year there may be some instability in some of the clubs meaning that perhaps we could leapfrog one or two.

I think it's good to dream to; I just don't let those dreams effect my expectations as that's when you can feel let-down.

Nicola wasn't involved directly in the footballing side, however, he provided the supportive background needed for others to succeed. He also brought in 3 good managers at the right time for each. The style of football that we have now is the style he has wanted for us. He continued to back an already successful academy and started the large development at Staplewood. Should our progress continue, it will be built on the foundations laid by Nicola and Markus.

I believe seasons are how you do after 38 games, not 6.

I say we can't win the league.

    We can't win the league.

    We can't.

    We won't.

Dream it as much as you want, but we won't win the league.

    We won't.

I'm actually finding it easier to believe we will win the league than to believe there are Saints fans out there thinking we can win the league.

My expectations currently are based on Lallana and shaw being sold - so anything above 14th.

If we keep them, spend another £40mil, I will expect to finish top half but hope for higher :)

Surprised by CBK's negativity? Personally, not so much;)

Ok CBK, if you are talking about next season, it's probably fair enough to doubt that we would breeze into the CL but what about over the next 5-10 years? Do you never think that we could be contenders? Is it beyond possible that our brilliant team could not improve in increments?

CF what you say is very plausible, but to be fair to CBK, all the CL talk is not on a 5-10 year deal. It's sooner than that and that ain't very likely at all.

Excellent! Just about how I feel. What is amazing is that I so nearly finished my post to you with the very same quote; not the full one but I did start typing out, "hope for the best..."

    Spot on fella!

She is one of my favourite writers. I have read all of her books and she has a wonderful voice. If you haven't read her work then do so now.

The only one I have read is "I know why the caged bird sings", back when I was at school. But that quote has always stuck with me.

You definitely don't have to spend as much as the big clubs spend to win the league. You almost certainly have to spend more than we do currently.

I haven't seen anyone on here who EXPECTS to win the league. Just because you hope to win the league or believe it might be possible doesn't mean you're going to hate on the team if they don't. I suppose there will always be people who get more joy out of correctly predicting the finish of their team instead of rooting for their team to beat the odds. I hesitate to call that "support."

All of her autobiographies in one book: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Collected-A...8&qid=1400906942&sr=1-9&keywords=Maya Angelou

I read them one at a time many years ago but I wish this compendium had been available then.

All I can say is that she is one hell of a woman.

One book I read many years ago which left quite and impression with me was The House of the Spirits by Isabel Allende. It is not an easy read but it is worth it.

I'll seek out a copy and give it a go. Not holiday to France this year :( though there is the day drive to Beaune for the company picnic in June!

My quotes are super original except that the super ones aren't original and the original ones aren't that super.

However in this case it was all my own work so thank you for the compliment.

The very lovely and I are not holidaying in France either this year which is a first time since goodness knows when.

Enjoy your knees up in Beaune a place I have visited and thought was fascinating.
