Dave - I think what bothers me most about this is that, surely they can´t have forgotten about what happened when they opted for Gunny, another legend who undeservedly ended in disgrace, they must have realised that the same scenario is very possible here, and to be avoided at all costs. I know it´s a bit dependent on just who he has alongside him, but if the rumours of Steve Foley are correct, that doesn´t exactly fill me with any more confidence - we´ll see.

I´m sure he´ll put heart and soul into it max, and I wish him all the best of luck, but I only hope for his sake, that there´s not a mass exodus of experienced 1st teamer´s to add to his woes. We know he´ll give youth a chance, but that alone is not what we need in the blood and thunder of the Championship.

I'm quite fearful he'll bring in loads of youth players as he rates them and they won the youth cup. If the backbone of our team is comprised of former youth players we're screwed, a manager with no experience and players with no experience. We'll be down to league one, I hope he has the sense to cling onto as many current senior players as possible.

I can't help but feel this is something of the board cutting their nose off to spite their face - it seems, to me, to be a message to supporters that if we don't get behind the manager they felt gave us our best chance of staying in the PL and want the team to play "the Norwich way", we will get a manager who will play "the Norwich way" accepting a lower chance of promotion. I wonder if they think, if it doesn't work out with Adams over the next few months, we can always bring in a manager later who will consequently have everyone behind him because Norwich fans will, by then, be desperate. Sort of like saying "actually, it can get worse - look".

Our team's style under Adams was, from the little we saw, relatively good. And he'll certainly get the youngsters in.

Having been amazed at the decision last night, I decided to sit down and analyse why the choice was made, putting my own emotions aside. I first wrote this on the 'Reasons to be Positive' post, but I think it's worth repeating here.

I don't buy the 'cheap option' theory, as McNally has insured that the club is in excellent shape financially, so what might be the reasons?

1. Adams is known and probably well liked by the players while other candidates would have been 'unknowns' to them. This could encourage more players to stay and that would be a big plus factor if it happens.

2. Though less experienced, he is actually older than any of the other candidates at 48 (MacKay & Lennon are 42, Zola 47). I think McNally puts a lot of importance on the 'character' of the man, which is why he went for Lambert, who was relatively unproven at the time. Were there doubts about the temperaments of the others over the long term, especially if results don't go well?

3. MacKay's approach (and possibly Lennon's as well) is conservative and this could have continued to aggravate fans who want 'entertaining football' played the 'Norwich way'. I'm convinced that Adams will play attacking football in the Championship (where he won't be playing the top PL teams). I also think that he's a good tactician who will use the squad well. Zola would also play attacking football, but would his approach fit the players we have or are likely to get?

4. Adams had a good record as a player, including a League Championship medal with Everton and this is important in commanding the respect of players. Zola also had an excellent playing record, but his management record shows two sackings (winning only 28.75% with West Ham and 44% with Watford). McNally actually made a point about the fact that MacKay had never played in the Premier League and of course Lennon's whole career has been in Scotland.

These are the positive points I could find, but I am still quite amazed at the decision. I've decided to look at it as an adventure which just might surprise us all! OTBC!

Well I'm bloody sure you don't either, though I am 100% certain that the backbone of our squad is not going to made up of youth players just because they won us the youth cup. If you really do think that then I'm sorry, but dumb is about the kindest word I can think of.

Actually I think you'll find I am generally one of the more constructive, reasonable and thoughtful posters on here thanks, you don't get too many ridiculous knee-jerk reactions from me. I like to think this is mainly because I tend to look at all the all the possibilities objectively, without any pre-conceived ideas based on absolutely nothing and I'm certainly not into concocting negative buulshit merely for the sake of it.

When somebody posts something I think makes a lot of sense and has obviously been well thought out and constructed based on facts and reality then I will say so and praise it, however when someone posts something equally as ridiculous and ill-informed with no substance to it at all then chances are I'm going to highlight it and give it the treatment I personally feel it deserves.

And its a bit bloody rich calling me Mystic Meg isn't it? Have you seen any comments from me saying what is going to happen next season, or even the likelihood of what is going to happen? You won't, because I haven't made any because I have no idea how it is going to pan out and I am sensible enough to wait and see how the summer, and the first few months of the season go before I would be confident enough to make any such predictions.

I'm certainly not the one preaching doom and gloom about what might happen next year, I've made no statements about how we will struggle to attract players, struggle to keep key players, put our faith in the youngster, be tactically naive at the back or even be caught up in a relegation battle on our way back down to League One.

I have however read plenty of other people crowing such absolute tosh, perhaps you want to reserve your 'Mystic Meg' description to those, or perhaps even yourself after your post that started this little exchange

It's called Hyperbole, sure it was an extreme example but given his youth connections I'd say many youth players will feature in the squad.

i think it certainly gives the youngsters a bigger chance to get selected in the first team squad but equally the team isn't going to be filled with kids either. reality is it'll be somewhere inbetween but closer to how it is now. i've not seen adams in action as a coach but i'm told he's decent but that only takes you so far and he needed to surround himself with talented coaches and for me, the news this morning about the return of foley is the key - this tells you everything you need to know about what's going on here - this isn't an ambitious plan with a bright, talented coaching team who will stun us all - this is an old boys routine. of course, people want to surround themselves with people they like and who they trust, but they have to be good at their jobs. in my experience, foley is not and this proves we are more likely to be on the slippery slope to obscurity than bouncing back to where we just came from. its all so disappointing and such a wasted opportunity. its all so 'norwich'. that's why its getting the reaction it has.

Just to add to this, I am totally gobsmacked by this and I really do not know how to think. It's a bloody disaster. I just hope he knows what his doing with the parachute payments, because once their gone they are gone.

honestly, i was determined to think about it this morning and write something positive but the foley news has made me see this for what it is. i'm really annoyed at what's happening so it would be unfair for me to say otherwise as it's what i believe.
