I liked the idea of concentrating on the youth at up, but when I read we'd be selling one or two a year once they're established in the first team that really pissed me off.
Nurture them and keep hold of them, don't turn us into a glorified Crewe Alexandra

Would help, but some or all of those players will need replacing so the savings mightn't be that great when new wages are taken in to account

There's no excuse for Ashdown not being offered the courtesy of a phone call in my eyes. Poor form from Leeds there.
As for the whole Ross £8m. IF that money was to be reinvested then I'd jump at it. I don't think Ross is worth £8m as much as I'm not convinced he will repeat his form this season. You also get the impression from time to time that he thinks he's bigger than the club, some of his tweets recently show a massive chip on his shoulder. Completely agree with Doha that you shouldn't have to give a player the armband to keep him at a club either.
All of that being said, if there is no chance of a full reinvestment we absolutely shouldn't sell him. Don't sell fridge to buy beers and all of that.

Yes they are but their crowds are 10% of ours, so we shouldn't need to sell our home grown players
I agree Essex........but unfortunately if a poncy rich prem club comes in with a silly offer at the moment we'd more or less take it. Regarding Ross, if he goes he goes, I don't want him to go, but sometimes the grass isn't always greener, just ask the Leeds reserves in Norfolk........

You're spot on. I follow it but very much with a pinch of salt. The odd useful bit of stuff on it from reporters like Pope and Hay and the like but mostly buried in a load of ****e posted by people who like to pretend to be in the know. Waccoe isn't much better. You know whats funny though, Cellino will do as he likes, he owns the club and doesn't give a toss what anyone thinks so not worth losing sleep over

I'd like to keep Ross ideally, but if he wants to go/we get an absurd offer for his services, I hope he goes early on in the transfer window and gives us enough time to line up replacements and improve the squad with the money.
There's plenty of good players (and young ones at that) who are out of contract this year, who will probably be asking for relatively low wages in comparison to the players we just released, so I really hope we act quickly for once rather than waiting for all the quality to go and being left with the dross

Not what he says in his last interview, he plans to develop players now and keep them as the club grows. Says he couldnt do that in Italy as he couldn't grow the club and the players became to good for a lower table team. Despite his faults he sounds like he wants to get us back to the top.

In regards to Ashdown and all the others released - Surely it was just a formality? If any of them were going to be offered a new contract the club wouldn't wait until their current deal had expired, did they honestly believe that they were going to be offered new ones?? It doesn't work that way, you talk about new contracts with them and their agents in advance, feel Ashdown is making a meal of it all if I am honest.
If you signed a 3 year contract with your place of employment and there was nothing talked about towards the end of it wouldn't you assume you were going to be unemployed at the end of it, wouldn't you ask questions yourself, did Ashdown not say to those in charge do you need me next season, am I going to be given a new contract???? Common sense tells you at the end of your contract if you haven't agreed a new one you are unemployed and free to go on your way.

Agree with what you're saying Ristac, but I still think it's common courtesy to give them a call. It takes all of two minutes and it just seems a tad unprofessional.
ristac - yes. I've always been on fixed term contracts or "indefinite" contracts with fixed end dates but the expectation they would be renewed. I would always assume that I was out of a job if I hadn't been either presented with a new contract or told one was on the way within three months of the current end date.
To be honest, I sometimes get termination letters from HR when they're ****ing about with legal stuff rather than getting a new contract out to me. I always ignore these letters. If I've been told I'm getting a new contract I don't worry. If I haven't been told months ahead of time (this has never happened yet) I think I'd know the writing was on the wall.
