I watched Murphy a couple of times he destroyed Forest in the cup with his PACE that's what we needGuedetti can be bought for around 1m Bentley 250k and Jennings for the same they would all improve the teamI agree we still need a midfield general who can dictate the game I am trying my best to come up with one

We need to sign young and hungry players who are immediately ready for the first team. Given the financial restraints rightly imposed that means signing players from PL clubs who are surplus to requirements outside their 25 man squads, on loan with a view to buy, plus one or two from Cagliari like Ibarbo etc.
No use buying young players just to pad the squad out, we've enough of those already, the likes of Dawson, Mowatt, Taylor.
A streamlined squad of 22 players all ready for first team action.

Agree with your sentiments, but surely if there's financial restraints being imposed that virtually excludes all PL players? Even those who are outside the 25 man squad will inevitably be on wages larger than we can afford. If we are going down the road of young and hungry, I think we'd have far more success looking into the lower leagues. Some of the players in League 1 would be more than capable of performing at this level. In fact, the only two half decent signings we made last season were both from League 1.

I'm surprised we don't look to the Scottish leagues more to be honest, I'd imagine the value for money would be far better than what we can get in England <ok>

I was going on the proviso the PL club would supplement their wages, or even if they didn't, players like Bamford, loaned out to Derby from Chelsea, can't be on that much per week, probably £5k max, and players like him are more than ready for Championship football.
Plucking players from the lower leagues is a bit more bit and miss, though it can work out well obviously.

Ah, didn't realise you exclusively meant on loan <doh>

I'd much prefer to buy players than loan them, personally, but obviously loans can work out. They just tend not to for us!

Updated OP with MTMB's and the new rumour (and probably first of many) that Ross is off to Malaga.

(I've been busy this week so will have a filter through the posts I missed and add any other solid looking rumours you've been posting)

Already a couple of good signings lined up for other clubs.

Gosling to Bournemouth (someone I said we maybe should take a look at) and Ben Hamer to Leicester

I know the ex reading boys haven't done well for us but they have just released McAnuff and Gorkss who could probably do a job. Always been a fan of McAnuff but they are both pretty old now and maybe not worth the risk.

There's plenty of decent players out there whose contracts are up, who probably won't be asking for a lot in wages. We just need to act quickly for once, rather than waiting for all the good players to be snapped up and being left with the dross.

Josh, I know what you mean about having inexperienced centre halves in the squad, but I think Pearce should now qualify as 'experienced' - he's 26 and made well over 250 appearances in his career. I would even argue that Lees is fairly experienced, he's just not quite good enough. From the very little I've seen/heard, Duffy would be a decent signing.

It's not a rumour at all (as far as I'm aware anyway) but I'd love for us to sign Kenny McLean from St Mirren. Out of contract this year, wants a move down south and we'd only have to pay compensation. We've been crying out for midfielders to make runs beyond the strikers/making late arrivals into the box for years now, and he definitely seems like he has that quality. Good on the ball too. If we had Murphy, Mowatt, McLean and an experienced (not old though!), proven Championship midfielder, I'd feel a lot more comfortable about our midfield next year.
