Here's a question for you London based R's. I hear there is a possibility of a tube strike this weekend. What are the chances of that going ahead? If it does happen, how would you advise people to travel to wembley from the main airports ie. Heathrow, Gatwick, Stansted and Luton. I am travelling through Luton and have a contingency plan that does not include travelling on the tube. What about the other 3 airports?
Havent heard of one - they prefer weekdays to maximise the inconvenience. Besides, the weekend engineering works cause enough disruption as it is.
Like the man in orthopedic shoes - I stand corrected: http://www.standard.co.uk/news/tran...-threat-for-bank-holiday-weekend-9397685.html Not the Aslef or RMT mob this time though.
There are a lot of overland lines within London. Locals might be able to advise the best alternative. You have to take into account traffic congestion.
On BBC London News this evening it said the Heathrow Express will be hit by a 24 hour strike on Friday and Monday, it depends what the starting times are as to whether that will impact on Saturday. It also said the Unite union were calling out it's workers that control the power to the whole underground network for a three day strike over the weekend. Looks like we'll have to post up some bus service info for those heading for Kingsbury/Wembley...
Fing - This is turning into an epic. No tubes (potentially), all overseas tickets have to be collected from Wembley, then on to meet 3,000 not606ers in Kingsbury and then back to Wembley again...........fingers crossed they reach a settlement asap
Homework already done Sooper. Looks like it is a 1hr and 49min bus ride for me and Scoby from LHR arriving into Kingsbury at 12:19! The 140 Bus to Harrow Town Centre and then the 183 to Kingsbury it is. A couple of ticketmaster transactions, one pint and then Wembley. Ho hum, the joys of travel, huh?....
Apparently TfL has said it plans to run 'normal services' despite the power workers strike so it looks like it's a case of 'watch this space'...
CORKeR, pm me your mobile number so we can make sure we find each other before the game, specially as the tube is now in doubt.
I'm sure i read somewhere that Southern rail runs from Clapham Junction to Wembley Central en route to somewhere further north....if so those travelling from Gatwick shoild be ok, we'll just have to arrange to meet up to collect tickets closer to the ground as we may not be able to get to Kingsbury.... Will do some research and report back.....
From Clapham Junction you can get the Overground which goes to Wembley Central via Willesdon Junction (may have to change at Willesdon) which may be the best bet. Overground every 15 minutes. I may well do that myself if theres no tube as my train north goes through Clapham J.
Re above.....according to Southern Railways website we could get the 9:56 from Gatwick to Clapham Junctionarriving 10:20 then get the 10:36 to Milton Keynes which stops at Wembley Central at 11;07.......the same route applies to the 10:56 from Gatwick aswell....... Don't panic just yet.......
