It would appear that Arsene Wenger has made the decision to sign a new contract. Some fans will happy and some disappointed.I have never got into the AKB/WOB debate but have always said whilst manager he would have my full support. What do fans want/expect to see now he has extended his contract ? Let us for once have a discussion that doesn't descend into petty and childish insults
I'm interested in the length of his contract, if it's 2 years it suggests this would be his last contract, if it's 3 or more then there's more long term committment to it. Personally, I'm pleased he's staying (though I always thought he would) and we can go into next season with greater optimism..........................................so long as he signs a proper CF or two !
Does the Puma money come into effect this summer? If the Puma and new Emirates sponsorship money is available this summer, that alone combined is 50 million.
I just hope that we can move on as fans and leave all the **** about whether he should stay or go behind because he's probably only going to be here for two more seasons. We've just won a major trophy and that's what we all been asking for, so my sincere hope now is that all Arsenal fans can get behind the manager and the team to really help us create a formidable fanbase and push on from here We've been divided for too long and there's been too much nonsense between Arsenal fans over the whole Wenger in/Wenger out argument.
I think the discussion on whether he is the right man to move us forward can continue. The discussion on whether he CAN move us forward is over; he has done it already.
I admit I wanted Wenger out but I've always wanted Wenger to make a comeback and bring back the glory days. Yesterday we saw a team willing to battle back and win it for the manager, which was very pleasing to see. But ideally I want Wenger to go into the summer transfer market and buy the players he wants/needs. I want to see him going for it with the hand break firmly pushed down.
I think there are two main concerns over whether Wenger can push us on to more success, particularly in the league. The first is tactics against rivals away from home. We need to be more pragmatic considering the firepower possessed by the top teams. Keep it tight, work our way into the game and hit them on the counter. The second concerns personnel. I don't think there are many on here who believe our current strikeforce can win us the league. If Wenger persists with Giroud as our main striker then I have to question his judgement on this matter. Giroud is not a match-winner. He's a Wiltord, not an Henry. If these two areas are addressed then I think he can achieve success in the league again.
I heard someone say on the radio/TV a few days ago that Wenger doesn't "do tactics" He just tells the team to go out on the field and play their natural way.He apparently does this no matter the opposition. How true this is I don't know.
The shots of him on the TV with the players at extra time moving water bottles around on the pitch suggests he does do tactics. But as has been mentioned before, he really needs to change the way we set up against the big teams as we've been spanked too many times to suggest it's an 'accident'. That and buying the two/three players this squad needs are the things I want to see Wenger address over the next two seasons.
I made one comment right after the Everton loss but aside from that i've always said the ideal scenario is Wenger stays and does what's needed in the transfer window
According to the Telegraph the £100 million figure is not the budget for this summer but is a rolling figure
I have heard this , im sure it was one of the ex players , i think Stewart Robson . Also , on tactics heres an interesting piece which give Fergies take on Arsenals weakness. http://www.squawka.com/news/arsene-wengers-flawed-defensive-frailties/97385
Here's what I would do with that... Matthias Ginter - Young German CB. Absolute beast £5-10 Million. Lars Bender - Defensive Mid. £15-20 Million Cavani/Ibrahimovic/Mandzukic/Benzema/Jackson Martinez. - We need another quality striker. In terms of value I believe Martinez would offer the best bet. He is not yet as big a name as he should be. The guy is absolutely crushing the Portuguese league. If he has a big World Cup (for a suprisingly strong Colombia team) His value will shoot up. On a slightly crazy note - I think a sneaky bid for Ibra would be worth it. His contract only has a year left and although 32 he is currently the best CF in World Football.(would demand crazy wages but would pretty much guarantee 30-40 goals a Season). Saying all that I think Benzema is the most likley.
