I'll be thrilled with this. A proven manager at this level and one of my all time favourite Norwich players!
If the Norwich want to create a philosophy for the Norwich way, then there's probably no better person to appoint than from within the club itself.
That was what I was thinking. He's been around the youth set-up for at least a decade, probably few people in the club who know the footballing side as well as he does.
Smith needs to take a back seat, I'm grateful for what she has done for the club but sometimes I question if she is behind some of the decisions which have made this club tumble in downwards spiral sometimes? We've had some degree of success promotions, playoff finals, so I imagine she'd feel quite confident and be strong with her opinions. I do think she's been immensely lucky sometimes there has been a handful of successful gambles, but cast your memory back to Doncaster and Munby regime it took the administrators knocking at the door for her to react, then they tried to get in more investment which was laughable. She doesn't come across as proactive, like by all means she needs to keep on board but leave the football decisions to people who know the sport. As for Fry I really don't know what his doing here, I don't think it does anything for our profile it's just another famous person who supports the club, I've rarely seem him tweet about the club too especially when we've thrown games down the drain or not performed.
Talk is of Malky with Adams as his assistant, which if you ask me would be an absolutely superb appointment. Who was his assistant at Cardiff by the way?
If I had put £11m into a club, I doubt that I'd want to 'take a back seat', Northampton. I feel City have a reasonably balanced board compared to most clubs. If McNally really has a problem with that, he could have left, but he hasn't, which to me suggests that he hasn't got a problem with it. I'm not entirely sure that Malky is the ideal choice, but he is the only leading candidate who has earned promotion from the championship and done reasonably well in his limited time in the Premiership. The others would be even more of a gamble, IMO. What he would bring is a strong personality and a firm grasp of what is needed now. Perhaps that is enough.
Equally though, putting £11m in would suggest you want the best for the club, and part of that is realising that being a fan with money does not necessarily qualify you to make the best decisions for the club. There's plenty of examples of people putting money into a club, trying to run it themselves, and it ending badly. I don't mean to sound like Delia is some kind of train-wreck holding our club back, but you'd think having more professional, football people on the board can only be a good thing.
Very good summary DH. Yes, i can appreciate that we wouldn't have a club without Delia, but also that had DM not replaced Doomcaster, then we would indeed have been doomed. I feel that of course she should have 'a voice on the board', but on the tough decisions such as who is the manager should be left to the likes of DM.
I wasn't implying that Delia should make the decision, but she is effectively the chairman of the board which makes that decision. I can see the advantage of having more football experience on the board, but Smith & Jones have been on the Board and directly involved with club for 18 years, as was pointed out in the Pink'Un today. Interestingly, the Board also explained the additional managerial post: "McNally repeated his belief that the club should have a ‘technical director’ at the club in future, to deal with football operations which the first-team manager does not necessarily need to be involved with. Wynn-Jones added that this will not be a director of football role, similar to structures used by clubs elsewhere in Europe." That suggests a role similar to that Karsa played under Lambert, but perhaps with a higher profile. It'll be interesting to see what comes of that in terms of adding 'more football experience' to the decision making.
Malky remains heavy favourite with the bookies, 2/9 this morning with Lennon out at 5/1 Zola is next best at 12/1
