It was a great shame that Vasquez had his perfectly good goal disallowed in the Europa League. I am sure that would have kick started his season.

Indeed, a great shame. You can't underestimate confidence, especially when you're younger and/or less experienced.

Vasquez was persevered with because he had very impressive scoring credentials with the Spanish "Under" teams. You don't get near selection for those sides unless you've got ability and he got 14 goals in 24 appearances. As I said, impressive.......

That he didn't hit it off with us is just one of those things. Football is littered with stories of players who flopped with one club then went on to great success with another. A typical example back in the day was Peter Beardsley. Kicked out by Liverpool as not being good enough, they forked out £7 million (a fortune then) to buy him back when his career blossomed elsewhere. Went on to have a great international career as well.

Given Vasquez' scoring record with the Spanish "junior" teams, the decision to give him a try was a worthwhile gamble. Shame for all concerned that it didn't pay off.

All those games delivering **** all and never looking to improve and you think it was worthwhile?!

All those games delivering f**k all and never looking to improve and you think it was worthwhile?!

Makes you wonder if behind the scenes falled apart because Laudrup was picking his favourites over those more deserving. Bartley has also mentioned today that that Monk picks players on how they perform in training.

Managers who can show on their CV they can last two years at a club tend to do that sort of most basic of managerial things.

Makes me wonder why people are so supportive of someone of a player who hasn't (yet) stepped up to the mark. Oh I know, it's so they can have another unsubstantiated dig at Laudrup.

not mine, I was referring to comment earlier. I thought he would have had a few games season gone after his last preseason

yes i know that you meant that musty. the lad has done well for us since he has been here. i hope monk sorts his career out one way or another..

agree Dai, think the lad needs to come off the bench a few times to get the feel of the pace of the game, if he cannot hack it, ok send him out on loan

We tried that last season … he didn't get the pace of the game (not nice for the boy but he was way off) and then refused his loan deal.

You cant just dismiss the lad for the little chance he got in pre season....He scored in other games didn't he, Or should we just judge him on the negatives because if you do that then you can include bony who was pants when he first started and the rest of the team at some point or another. I have seen Rory play some blinders for the reserves so to dismiss the lad like that is totally wrong....
