I don't have a short list of Chairmen to appoint as I'm not on the senior payroll at ENIC so am not privy to that inside knowledge (obviously!) but as previously stated in several of my posts, I have praised Levy's money management skills. But his managerial appointments have been questionable to say the least. And I'm certainly not the only one saying it, whether it's the fans or people within the game: http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/27418752
There was an interesting remark in the ES about whether Levy has set the bar too high (6-7 into 4 won't go) re other club finances, and not so much about having that benchmark or ambition but the axe falling at the first moment it doesn't happen.
I know - but almost every chairman in the PL does exactly what Levy does on managerial appointments: so if we swap him for someone else we probably get someone who is no better at choosing managers and worse at everything else.
I was hoping that Clive Allen could return to our youth system next season alongside Chris Ramsey, but he seems to have burned his bridges with that statement. Silly.
That'll be me! Still my greatest ever application of my statistal knowledge. I'm not even sure if the requirements are met to do a z score with Sherwood's vs A N Other cos his sample size is so small. If you could do the test, though, I am certain that any difference in win percentage would be overwhelmingly most likely due to random fluctuation. Sherwood's win percentage stats are a totally insignificant statistic, I think.
Apologies lenny for not remembering your name. <shameful> In the same way THFC6061 must have a template for his match thread prologues, perhaps we can prepare similar for the method of computing the means of confirming/refuting the "best manager ever" for the next one. It will be needed soon enough.
Ramsey and Ferdinand are supposedly meeting with Levy today. It's likely that Ramsey gets Sherwood's old job as Head of Football Development, while Ferdinand gets his P45. Freund will likely be gone when NEW MANAGER takes over.
Perhaps Freund and Ferdinand might do a little better if they were used in their areas of expertise, rather than having them train people at things that they were rubbish at as players?
He was under Villas-Boas. Ferdinand mainly worked with the youth team. Whether this continued under Sherwood is not something that I'm aware of, but it wouldn't surprise me. The methodology that I've heard described for Freund's methods was reproduced in this clip, with Sherwood taking the place of our friendly German: Seems far too similar to be a coincidence, in my opinion.
Ferdinand and Freund remain a fans favourite and I doubt Levy will announce the departure of a fans favourite before the 5pm deadline today for season ticket renewals. Ferdinand and Sherwood are the guests on Goals On Sunday this weekend so maybe some news will come out then.......
Hey, here's an idea... Let's not do what everybody else does. Is it completely unfeasible for Levy to take up a CFO (Chief Financial Officer) role and then simply let someone else entrusted in the game, preferably a footballing man to do the appointments? Someone who has been in the game, whether it be ex-player, ex-coach/manager, ex-scout who has been at a number of clubs over the years, gained immeasurable experience and has worked in and around Europe? I don't think that is a particularly outlandish suggestion and there should be plenty to choose from. Levy had zero footballing experience when taking over as CEO and it shows. He still has a major part to play with finances, sponsorship, TV rights, new stadiums, player contracts, internal human resources... plenty to keep him busy and still have a major role to play. But please, step aside when it comes to footballing appointments! It's not too much to ask.
Same problem fla, he has to be chosen as well, and there is no reason that it won't be just as difficult to pick such a man as it is to pick a manager in the first place. I understand your desire for somebody to pick the right manager and stick with him, sadly wherever you look all football clubs have the same problem. Nobody can do this job so we might just as well stick to Levy who has the attitude and looks after finances, in such a volatile situation, very well. The one area of the club that IS right is not where we should be looking to change.
"Ferdinand and Freund remain a fans favourite" So was Hoddle and he still got the boot. They have to provide something materially beneficial to the Academy, or they are just the football equivalent of Bez in the Happy Mondays. Seeing Teddy still being classic Teddy in the Ledley testimonial makes me wonder whether he should be in the employ of the coaching team.
"Is it completely unfeasible for Levy to take up a CFO (Chief Financial Officer) role and then simply let someone else entrusted in the game, preferably a footballing man to do the appointments?" Levy as CEO/CFO, and someone else as CTO ??
