I'm a dog person personally but that's a great cat and bad dog......

Quite unnerving how it stalked in behind its prey like that, like watching wolve with deer only it's a wee baby.....not good.

Good point. Very poor dog -- should be put down for that. Cat wasn't protecting the child, though. It was clearly territorial.
 
Devious and sneaky ****er of a dog clearly with a nasty temperament... its owners have come out and said it doesn't like children and bikes. Why the hell then it's being allowed to roam loose in a neighbourhood where there are clearly children and bikes is beyond me. Blame shouldn't all go on the dog; it's as much the owners' fault for being irresponsible (of course it might have sneaked out), we're quick to demonise the dogs but they aren't targeting 'innocent children', it's all just prey to them isn't it, natural attack instinct... if it's there it's there, some dogs have it, some don't. But this one is a biter for sure.

Superhero cat though. Apparently it followed the family home from a park five years ago and started sleeping in the little lads' cot so it has a bond with him, also protecting its patch though.
 
Yup, if the dog has an owner they need the silly feck knocked out of them...dog is as owner does.

I admire cats for their superior and independent nature but I like the glassy eyed adoration you get from dogs lol.....well not that one obviously.......

I was about to say some dogs don't like certain things such as bikes. I had a dog that hated ladders, if you was up when she saw you then you wasn't getting down without help <laugh> Doesn't make it right, the dog should be controlled to avoid the situation.

That video is made worse because its a child on the bike, it wouldn't get half the reaction if it were an adult.
 
I always liken dogs to children. I never met a bad child (dog), only bad parents (owners). Dogs, like children, are intelligent, inquisitive and need instruction and guidelines. A dog that plays up is usually either bored, mistreated or both. Same with children, too, I guess.

This view irritates the **** out of me! If its bad parents, how come you see a family with three or four kids but only one of them is bad?

I understand the parent/owner has a responsibility to teach them the right ways but the child/dog has to have the right mentality too. Some people/dogs just don't want to behave no matter what you do.

Just a generalisation, Gerrez. I admit all animals have massive variety and there probably some unmanageable dogs / kids. I take it you have at least one unruly child?

Not atm but I know others that have, same with dogs. Although having said that, my eldest (seven in July) is being a pain in the arse lately <grr>


there is no doubt that parents / owners contribute to some child / dog behaviour, it just annoys me that some believe that logic can apply to all <ok>

TBH, i think its a bit of jealousy because of the youngest (was thirteen weeks on Tuesday) getting so much attention. He never did it with the middle one (four in October) but there isn't as big a age gap (2y 3m compared to 5y 8m) between them.
 
True Gerrez but dogs are pack animals that respond and need hierarchical control...if we make them part of our pack it's up to us to assert that dominance/control and make a dog, bad or good understand that it is the omega of the pack, below every human, including toddlers...otherwise the dog, good or bad will assert its belief it's higher up the pack than it is and dominate those either below it or outside of its pack. And since that dominance is asserted with teeth.......

They are only part domesticated (interestingly cats even less so) we essentially invite a still semi wild predator into our lives where it will consider others of our kind below it or worse a food source unless told otherwise....so it's never the dogs fault...if it's a stray we need to remove it, if it's owned then it's the owners fault a pack member isn't being controlled or thinks it's the pack leader..

I mean my jack Russell thinks it's second in command and is a domineering little ficker...which is why he'll never be unrestrained outside or left alone around kids......I've failed to be a good pack leader so I'll be a good human.

Cats have a very strong vigilante tendencies actually.

We have 5 in our household... If one gets angry with another and lashes out at it- the three cats that were not involved will ALWAYS go after whoever started the fight. (if they witness it... if they don't they'll attack anyone)

Doesn't matter which cats are involved- they don't tolerate violence- and resort to attacking the guilty party. (think of cats as the UN... they send peacekeepers in to beat up people being violent).

It's not just my cats- I've seen it in other groups of cats. If one cat starts a fight- every cat in eyesight will get involved.

If they don't see who started it- they will attack any random cat involved in the fight.



I bet the cat saw the child as family and was playing the vigilante. Cats do that.
