Liverpool looking at Dani Parejo of Valencia supposedly, pretty sure he plays in a very similar position to Lallana?

Of all the non saints related news this summer, this little saga should be the most enjoyable!

Luis Suarez has refused to be drawn on speculation that Barcelona or Real Madrid could lure him away from Liverpool in the summer.

"I know what I want and what my agent says is good for me, but I don't want to comment on speculation."

In the words of a certain Liverpool fan, its sounds like a 'done deal.' <laugh>

Let's hope we overprice Lallana for Liverpool....no reason for us to give them a bargain. We need to replace him and have some loose change. He's done a lot for us, but Saints have treated him well for many years.

Let's hope we wait until Suarez goes then, see how much of that we can pocket for ourselves.

If I'm suffering, I want everyone to suffer with me. Need more news about other clubs losing their stars....even better if it is to us.

I rarely post on here but I'm going to give my 2 pence worth.

There is a lot of assumption that if Lallana goes it will be to Liverpool just because the put a bid in first. From what I understand if Lallana leaves it will be because he wants to play in the Champions League football. Well there are a lot of teams who play Champions League football. It isn't in Southampton's interest to do a quick deal this is probably why we are hearing very little of any worth. Whether Lallana stays or goes is irrelevant. He is going to be playing in the World Cup and a successful tournament will see his value rise so any outcome after the World Cup is a win - win for Southampton. Keep a top player if he stays or a lot of money if he goes.

From Lallana's perspective there is no rush to sign for Liverpool. It is a change of company with more opportunities that's all. He will know that a successful World Cup will mean a lot more opportunities will be open to him in England and abroad and I'm in no doubt his agent knows this too so he is probably advising Lallana to concentrate on his football and not make any rash decisions. Making a decision after the World Cup is a win - win for him too. Win if he goes higher wages and European football and win if he stays because he is at a club where he is very popular. So he gains nothing from putting a transfer request especially as Southampton will not be obligated to pay up the rest of his contract if he does.

In short most of the stories in the press are probably coming from Liverpool trying to pressure deal to be done this week because they know after the World Cup they will have to pay a lot more and will probably have competition to sign Lallana too. Every day that passes it is less and less likely a deal will be until July at the earliest if it happens at all.

Might be wrong but from my point of view the only one who can gain from a deal being done quickly is Liverpool and they would be better off saving their money and buying some decent defenders who are not Lovren, Shaw, Clyne, Chambers or Fonte.

Yep. That should surely be their priority.

Good post indeed, and I think you're absolutely right that the only party wanting to get this done quickly are Liverpool. Feel I need to correct something though as it's the second time I've seen it said. Clubs who sell players don't have to pay them the remainder of their contracts. Only the remainder of the signing-on fee, "loyalty bonus" (which is generally paid in instalments over the length of the contract) needs to be paid. Players who put in transfer requests forfeit that bonus, which is why clubs are so keen to force players to make them.

Spot on Soria, but of the English clubs Liverpool is his best bet in terms of playing time. Chelsea, Arsenal & Man city are all very well stocked in attacking midfielders and a lot of them are better or on par with Lallana.
