I was reading through the provisional and 23-man squads released by the countires competing in the World Cup and I couldn't get over more than one surprise exclusion and I was wondering which you all found the most shocking and why? The Tevez one jumps off the page at me. 19 goals and a Serie A winner's medal...
Other - Nico Gaitan. I suspected Argentina would neglect Tevez and Icardi, because it's known that they're not liked. They also have other great strikers. However their midfield is poor, and with the likes of Maxi Rodriguez, Ricardo Alvarez, Augusto Fernandez and Jose Sosa being deemed good enough, how the hell is that lot better than Gaitan? Pastore as well, for that matter.
None of those has really shocked me to be honest. Deschamps thinks Nasri is a twat and Argentina have got so many quality forwards to choose from so Tevez was always going to struggle to get in.
Nasri is a bit of a girl and has barely been involved in the previous games, yet he is a game changer. A manager should have the balls to pick his best players whether he thinks they are a twat or not. France should have cruised through their group, if they could stop bitching they would be real contenders
France chose their best players for the last World Cup, irrespective of their personalities. Anelka argued with the coach, the rest of the players boycotted training, and they finished bottom of their group with 1 point. If Nasri's gonna be a disruptive personality, with what's happened before, I think Deschamps can be forgiven for leaving him out.
I was actually surprised Cole was left out. I think Roy's made the right decision (most Saints fans do I suppose), but it's still a surprise. I see Tony Adams has been quick to jump in and call it a mistake.
Has to be Tevez... Franco Di Santo was woeful in the Premiership, only 4 goals this season with Werder Bremen judging by wiki as well!
