So getting back on topic. Why is it kicking off in Northern Ireland???

Thought those times had long gone

The UVF and their 'politicos' are saying that they have been left behind and are not reaping the benefits (money) from the peace process. They are pointing out that Sinn Fein are in government etc. They totally miss the point that when they put themselves up at election time the do not recieve the votes. The UVF are heavily involved in drugs which, of course, most people do not want in their area hence the lack of votes. They are trying to make themselves relevent at a time when people are asking them what they are still in existence for. They resorted the the age old tactic of attacking Catholics and what better place to attack than the tiny Short Strand which is surrounded by Loyalist areas. Why they didn't attack Ardoyne or the Falls is hardly one for the academics. In saying that, the Short Strand ones chased them pretty easily anyway.

is that the general feeling in Dublin or just your own preferance?

I think it's the general feeling all over Ireland. Most people I talk to seem to think there was maybe a point in rioting maybe 40 years ago when there were actual civil rights abuses going on, but the Troubles were an absolutely pointless waste of life on both sides. The only people still agitating and throwing stones are the people who would be out stabbing fellas in nightclubs if they didn't have a paramilitary group to tag onto and pretend they're actually fighting for something

I doubt they'll ever go. Aslong as there are morons to throw bricks and petrol bombs, it won't.

I don't understand what good they think will come from their actions. All they are doing is causing damage to their City and upping the Police presence.

If they want a United Ireland, they need to cross a box on a voting ballot.

Yonner, the UVF are Loyalists. They are opposed to a United Ireland. Jesus Christ.

****ing glad i did not take History, even though apparently i grew up with it going on.

**** that

<laugh> Course it was.

Just after the Dirty filthy Brits murdered all their family and burnt a Tricolour.

Not even sure what that's supposed to mean.

The PSNI are the Northern Irish police. If they say it was the UVF, I'm going to take their word for it.

It's quite simple really. Northern Ireland is a bigoted, backwards black hole of despair that has not changed in over half a century.

there'll be groups stirring it up but i'm sure some of them are just kids who see a situation where they can throw rocks at the polis and generally get away with it. it's probably quite a lot of fun when you're 13, as long as your mum doesnt see you on telly.

i thought it was just high jinx on Rory's return with the masters. You know how these wild parties get out of control

I read that Dissedent Republicans had shot a photographer and caused trouble.

I'm sure they both had their part to play.

Lock 'em both up.

They did indeed shoot a pressman. The question is why it started. This is a god send for the Dissident Republicans. They can now claim to be protecting the area. I agree though, lock them all up.

Notice Webebhoy hasn't been on for a while.

Must be out throwing non-sectarian/politicial/freedom bricks.

An easy, lazy and misinformed view. I wish that was the case. You had over a hundred Loyalists, not kids, attacking a small Catholic area. Whatever you may think, kids do not have easy access to guns in Belfast.
