Was Clint injured last night or did he take one for the team. So refreshing to see our Capt run off, applaud the fans in all corners and stand on the touch line until the very end. Not the greatest player ever to don the hoops but what an inspirational guy. I just love watching Clint Hill!!
He appeared to be leading the coaching effort after he went off, shouting and pointing the whole time. Genuine passion, but also a handy job audition. Has to be said though, Yun made a big difference going forward.
Which is why I'd have replaced Dunne with Yun from the beginning and have Clinton in the middle. With that said, Dunne grew into the game and by the end was immense. Anyway, I think Hill did actually have a problem with his right leg as it got knocked at some point. But nothing to worry about.
Wrong Upminster ....yes he is one of the greatest players to play for the RRRs...not the most naturally talented, not the most gifted But he is one of our greatest players Gives EVERYTHING for the team. Like Gallen and Bircham and McDonald He will be in my Hall of Fame
Agree with those on here that he took the subsitution well, and he's a good honest professional. I think Richard Dunne went from strength to strength throughout the game and I hope his critics cut him some slack for this performance. Yun looked very good when he came on, and surely must start in the final. He's pacey, direct and can cross very well. Hill should be starting on the bench for the final, no room for sentiment
I'm waiting for the inevitable comments that he'll be too old next season, just as there have been at the end of each of the last 3 seasons. Madness. He's probably playing as well now as he has done at any point in his career. Having said that he was at fault for the goal IMO - hand in the air claiming offside when the goal scorer got across him. I still think it should be Simpson-Onohua-Hill-Yun for the final however.
Clint is an inspirational character to have around, and still has a lot to give IMO. However, I thought that Dunne and Ned were the stars last night, and IMHO I don't think that you should play Dunne and Hill alongside each other in the starting line up for the final. Their lack of pace would be exposed by Derby's young 'uns. My starting back four would be Simpson, Ned, Dunne and Yun
Beth. You have captured my observation far better. A top pro, a super hoop worthy of the tag "legend.". In 10 yrs time we'll still be singing his song
One of our greatest ever players? That's a huge statement to describe an essentially passionate player with very little ability. Let's not get ahead of ourselves. He's not even in our strongest 11 at present. Ship him out next year, or offer him a coaching role.
Please allow people some room for sentimentality after the night we had last night. What is running through your veins? Ice?
I do appreciate the fact that so many people admire Clint Hill, because yes he does love the club more than anybody else in the team, and he has been through an awful lot with us. BUT, that doesn't cover up the fact that he is an extremely limited player that is starting to cost us more and more goals. He is NOT in our top two strongest centre backs. And he is NOT our best left back. Therefore, cutting aside the fact he is so passionate and that, he shouldn't be starting. He isn't good enough. And he was at fault for the goal yesterday. He lost concentration, he lost his man, we were 1-0 down. We are in a situation now where it's all or nothing. Is he good enough to be in our team IF(huge if) we go up? No. Is he a player we base our team around next season if we do not go up? No. As much as it will hurt most (if not all of you), I think Clint may have (and should have) played his last game for us. Yun should start. He's going to the World Cup. He can handle the occasion.
I'm not so sure AAAGH. For me, the Lions share of culpability for their goal goes to Simpson. Their player just stopped with the ball and must have stood still for about 5 seconds waiting to pick out a pass and all the while Simpson never got close. I made that point about Simpson on here after the Bournemouth game but nobody replied to it. He stands off at least a yard too much! Onuoha and Hill could have done much better too on that occasion. Big Ned more than made up for it after that though. He was incredible!
Good point. Onohua was MoM for me by some distance. Goals win games of course but I can't see how Charlie's overall performance stands above Ned.
The Hill/Yun substitiution was well timed and made a very big difference to the game. Well done to both Yun on the field and also to Clint off the field. My preference wuold have been to substitute Dunne for Yun, and play clint as a centre back. But, I have to admit that Dunne played very well for the whole match. I thought he may collapse during extra time, but he didn't. In fact well done to the whole team!
