Bit of a chip on his shoulder by the sounds of it.

Heard a lot about the "thug" Clint Hill. Not heard a peep about Callum 'not that sort of player' Mcmanaman.

I was more responding to the Watford guy and by extension all of the other comments about WIgan's crowd size - anyway, whats wrong with it? Surely your lot are getting used to other supporters having a pop about your money? You've joined the footballing gentry mate, you'd better get used to it!

Relax. If you're interested I'll tell you my theories about Wigan's crowds - but they'll make exactly zero difference to what happens on the pitch tomorrow. But I puzzle over this - in our last season in the Championship nine years ago we sold out the DW on four or five occasions including the last game against Reading. We haven't sold it out now since I think our third season in the PL. About fifteen years ago we took 12000 to Maine Road for a playoff game. 12000! We took about 30000 to the Millennium for our League Cup final in 2006, but only just sold out our 25000 for the FA Cup last year. In spite of eight years in the PL our gates were falling rather than rising. Why? To my mind can only be second club syndrome. We must have been loads of supporters from the Wigan area's second club - loads of Evertonians and City supporters in the borough, then a fair shake of LFC plus of course loads of plassy Mancs. and we went from being an easy second club, to being a competitor, and so the second club people drifted away. But interestingly, WAFC has the highest proportion of under 16 season ticket holders to total STs in the league - so our young fan base is growing.

We face loads of challenges - within an hours drive of Wigan there are 21 of the top 92 clubs. This borough is poor - and I mean, poor. And there is the Rugby League. Warriors are to their sport what Real Madrid are to ours, so yes there is real competition. Only 240 people have STs for both clubs. There is a lot of real hatred between Latics and Warriors. But in spite of that - and perhaps this is really telling us something about the poverty - their average crowds are smaller than ours.

Oh the irony of being lectured about chips on shoulders by a QPR supporter!

    <ok>

Well it seems you do as you've spent half the thread on the defensive and taking posts such as mine the wrong way. I couldn't care less if you sell 11,000 or 111,000- my point about the rugby was genuine- if Warriors weren't playing I'm sure a few more would have turned up.

    11,000 is bizarre though.

OK Watford, I apologise if I'm being a bit defensive - I spent an earlier part of the evening catching up with threads on your forum from Friday and so I was probably responding to them more than I was to you. The only WUM who manages to wum himself up...

You going tomorrow? I hope your prediction is right, but this could so easily go either way. I hope we're not just softening each other up to the benefit of Derby.

Yeah I'll be there. Derby seem to think they're already promoted.

If you play the correct team I think you'll win. Fortune was in Onuoha's pocket and either Maynard or Waghorn would cause more problems IMO assuming Powell is still unwell. Maloney also looked way off the pace. Speed tends to hurt us more than anything, especially if Dunne gets picked again, Redknapp's bastard love child.

Saying that, we've kept three clean sheets against you now this season so must be doing something right. The bookies will make us slight favourites and I think we will just edge it but that's not based on very much given most of our performances since about November.

I think thou protests a little too much.

Do not understand why Rosler clearly instructs his sides to defend one goal leads. We should have continued to take the game to them when we still had four attacking players on the pitch plus wing backs. Hope Maloney's miss doesn't come back to haunt us.

Hard luck HP. It was very close.

If you keep this squad together you'll come up next year.

I thought the selection of McManaman and McLean up front was an excellent one and you absolutely did a number on us in the first half. As you say, sat back far too much in the second when we looked shaky whenever you attacked. Could very easily have been out of sight at half time.

Bit disappointed with McLean's dive as he was someone I liked the look of when he came through at Sunderland but he had a really good game apart from that. If those two had started up front together on Friday I think it would have been a different story tonight.

Cheers everyone, tough break at the end of the season but hey ho -

    Charity Shield
    European tour
    FA Cup semi
    Playoffs

    It's been a bit of a "nearly"season but a great one nonetheless.

Well done Wigan boys. you put up a good fight and ha d a real go.
you didnt crumble as we hoped but our lot stepped up with the 12th man shouting.
We got lucky with that 2nd goal miss of yours and i was impressed with your front 2 - apart from that terrible dive. let himself down there.

good luck & we'll try and win it "just for you" <ok>
