He came to us in the Championship from bench-sitting at Prem club Sunderland after some knee repair work. At the reported £650K it cost us, it was a gamble that paid off and was very cheap in hindsight.

His knees have held up and he looks physically strong though lacking in Prem quality first touch. To be blatantly fair to the guy, he has been hung out to dry up front so many times this season it must have been soul destroying.

Now going the other way from what is now a Championship side back to a Prem club, you would expect him to command a higher fee than £800K especially given the virtually injury free time he's put in with us.

Unless there's some specific release clause figure, I'd expect us to hang on to him. If he's just allowed to speak to other clubs now we've gone down, he shouldn't be let go for anything less than three times that figure.

He was shown up badly in the PL. Yes he runs his socks off but does little else. His ball skills are average, he falls over too easily and just cannot pass or see an opening. 6 goals is paltry. Gayle scored almost as many in 2 games for Palace.

But he would do a job in the championship as proved last season.

City desperately need a 20+ man; Jordan Rhodes or Ross McCormack surely must be targeted.

He has repeatedly failed at PL level. His touch is worse than horrendous and he plays like an 11year old with his head down constantly. He'll score goals in the Championship if he comes with us because it's easier. He's missed god knows how many points worth of chances this season.

I hope we sign a better striker, if he goes to Hull he'll be on their bench most of next season unless Long, Jelavic are injured.

I'll add that I'm pretty sure any of Rudy, Mason, Maynard even the useless KWJ could have provided 6 goals or better given the entire season up front.

The problem you have got is your huge debt and relegation where you will now have to sell to reduce the wage bill and everyone knows that and clubs will exploit Cardiff's predicament and will be looking who they can entice for little money. It happens to all clubs when they drop out of the premiership due to the loss of millions the club will now not get in the new season...

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer confirms Spanish striker Javi Guerra will arrive at Cardiff City this summer, saying: 'contract is watertight'

The Norwegian told WalesOnline the move for Guerra is going ahead irrespective of relegation to the Championship.

Real Valladolid striker Javi Guerra will play for Cardiff City in the Championship next season, according to Bluebirds boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Cardiff nearly secured Guerra's services in January after meeting his buyout clause but he eventually opted to sign a pre-contract agreement for a three-year deal that would see him link up once his Valladolid contract was up in June.

There had been some confusion over the deal given the Bluebirds' relegation but Solskjaer has told WalesOnline the deal is "watertight" and after a medical, Guerra will join up for pre-season.

Solskjaer exclusively revealed: “He’s still joining us yes. It’s a watertight contract all the papers are signed.

"He still needs to do his medical, but he will come and do that this month when the Spanish league has finished. That’s all sorted though. After that he joins us for preseason."

Guerra is 32-years-old and has 16 goals for La Liga side Valladolid this season, the latest two of which came in a 4-3 defeat to Real Betis last weekend.

Solskjaer added: “He scored a couple of goals on the weekend. He’s a very exciting player”

Experienced Guerra's previous clubs include Cadiz, Valencia and Mallorca.

Just what is Cardiff's predicament Dai, or is it some generalisation you're applying to relegated teams?

Some will go because they've got get out contract clauses that will need to be honoured, but that's life. It can work the other way as well. Relegation often results in reduced wages for contracted players. If they don't like it, there are plenty out there that will jump at the chance of joining the club on those terms.

£23M parachute payment for this season alone will fill some of he requirements, and Tan will top up the funding to whatever is needed to go for it again.

The downside is of course that when we go back up, we'll forfeit the other 3 years parachutes - well, you can't have it all ways.......<laugh>

Don't rely on parachute payment sparkey that has been earmarked for tans pocket just like he has used £50m to pay off debts. His £100m loan is still firmly in his bank and that is the only reason cardiff are surviving today. Your wage bill is far to excess for a club in so much debt that has just been relegated. OLi will want to bring in new players on lower wages and for him to do that he has to off load the high earners....Its normal for a club your size. you are no Newcastle who could afford to keep their best players when they were relegated and went straight back up. Cardiff wont have such an easy ride as that and it will be difficult to get back at the first attempt. its very unlikely with a lunatic in charge...

Dai - a few things mate.

    1) if you knew anything about parachute payments, you'd know they're not "earmarked for Tan's pocket" - they cannot be used for debt reduction purposes.

    2) How the hell is his £100M loan to the club still in his bank account?

    3) What has the current wage bill got to do with the club's existing debt?

    4) This "lunatic" that won't get us back up - how come got us up last time?

Ok....I do not want to ban Dai...he's too good a laugh....but can we somehow ban him/stop him from commenting about anything he knows nothing about. I realise that may reduce him to talking about the toilets at the vetch but ces la vie.......I guess he knows a bit about Swansea City too....but surely we can stop all the other crap he spouts? Alternatively, I suppose I can (reluctantly) go down to Swansea some time and give a short lesson in finance but that really would be a last resort and would have to wait till I'm going there for some other reason.
