I don't think we're judging on 19 games. I think we're judging on his career v Bruce's. Both excellent but Pulis slightly stronger IMHO.
What's that got to do with it, we are talking about this season, which he has only managed half of it. As I said I admire what he has done, he is a very good manager, but for this season you have to judge like for like.
Steve Bruce has finished 10th, Pulis has finished 11th. Both have reached an FA cup final. It's apples and oranges, their records are almost identical.
I realise that, but the fact that the thread picks out Pulis/Bruce/Poyet is based on what they have done this season. Pulis is being judge mostly on what he has done a Palarse, and he has done a great job. However over all as Hat point out, there is little to choose between Pulis and Bruce, but based on this season for me it swings in favour of Bruce.
The great bullshitter strikes again Bruce Games managed: 680 Won: 255 Drawn:168 Lost: 257 Win %: 37.50 Pulis Games managed: 921 Won: 339 Drawn:273 Lost: 309 Win %:36.81 Poyet Games managed: 233 Won: 102 Drawn:66 Lost: 65 Win %:43.78
I'm pretty sure the opening post didn't state for this season only. Based on this season - as people seem to agree, nothing really in it. Only down side of this season for Bruce is that he hasn't kept us mentally on track since the semi-final. Although we are suffering with injuries, the squad is quite small and the season is catching up with them.
I wasn't counting his awful time at Bournemouth and Gillingham at the arse end of the Football League. In terms of Premier League football, Pulis ****s all over both of them.
Well if you're only looking at this season you're only making the case for Pulis even stronger. Since he took over in November, Palace have earned the same amount of points as you have all season.
I am said owner - my first question is what happened to the previous manager, my second question is what is my budget for players/wages. As without the full knowledge of said club it is hard to give opinion.
Are you sure about that ? Bruce has had Wigan, Birmingham and Sunderland all in comfortable mid-table Premier League. All were unfancied teams at the time he steadied the boat. He also has promoted his last three seasons in the Championship at first attempt. Pulis brought Stoke up and performed miracles. Then miracles again at Palace. I would go for Pulis for this season but overall there is not a lot between them and to suggest there is, is ******ed. Add into the equation that one manager promotes pleasing football to watch, and the other is Pulis.
Poyet took too long to steady that ship. I see Sunderland in the same position next season. Pulis achieved what that team should have been capable of anyhow. Nothing more, nothing less. I doubt they'll improve next season. Bruce has got us promoted, kept us up with 2 games to go, and got us to an FA Cup Final oh yeah, plus Europa. He's got Jelavic and Long in, and is no question a great fella who footballers want to work for. We will have a small clear out this summer and we'll see the beginnings of a decent squad starting to grow. Bruce every day of the week.
I am sorry to say you have missed the point I was trying to make. The fact that the thread creator asked which of the 3 managers would you target, was clearly based on what has happened this season, as they are the 3 that he picked out to debate over. What I was pointing out was that if all 3 had managed with their clubs for a full season, then the outcome could have been completely different, and both Pulis and Poyet may not have shone as brightly as they have. AKCJ stated that anyone who didn't think Pulis should be chosen out of the 3 is a moron. Well I for one would prefer Bruce in charge over Pulis or Poyet if I had a choice, but stick to what I posted that to a large degree what has swayed AKCJ is the fact what Pulis did for Palace, but you cannot compare that to what Bruce has done for us.
