£164m

Football is a stupid game money wise. As you say Para - how much of that money could easily be spent on saving peoples lives instead of linig peoples pockets?

Sad reality of the football world! That said - I have renewed my season ticket!!

Oh one or two.

City buying Messi, for one reason only, in the hope that they can eventually win at the SOL.

Nah - Catts will pop him in his back pocket and leave him there until the end of the game after another 1-0 win!

Apologies Commo - I pinched your comment and put it on the comments board at the bottom of the page!

£164m - that seems a bit of a random figure.

That's just the tip of the iceberg though, He'll end up with a signing on fee of about £20m, wages of about £500k a week and image rights, goal bonuses. The overall cost over 5 years would probably be in the region of £350-£400m

Drop in the ocean for the guys who own City, but **** knows how they'd manage to avoid FFP sanctions if they don't have inroads to Sepp and Platini's offshore bank accounts.

200million Euro I reckon

Even though I think ronaldo is much better id love to see Messi in the premier league. If he wants to be considered one of the greateat he can't hide at Barcelona his whole career.

Clever sod!

To open this thread up a bit, who here is convinced Lionel Messi will be an outright success in the Premier League?

I'm of the opinion that he's been a spearhead in a small team of very talented players, taking him out of his comfort zone may expose his human side, having said that, there's enough talent at City to feed him all day long.

Scary.

I don't think Barca squad in general would do that well (relatively) if dumped into the premier league. half a season of success until the likes of Stoke, Palace etc figure them out, then half a season complaining about the physicality of the premier league while they fail to pick up the points.

Sure, they'd be in the top 5 clubs in the premier league, but no way would they run away with it.

As for Messi, Ronaldo did well enough so I'd expect Messi to do fine after a couple of months adapting
