I agree with the idea that Gerrard hasn't seemed like the 2nd best player at our club let alone the league, but the performance statistics actually back up his claim. Toure as 3rd best is actually the overrated player. Nice goals but no consistency. http://www.premierleague.com/en-gb/players/ea-sports-player-performance-index.html please log in to view this image
I have said countless times how over rated I think Toure is. Many of his goals are from set pieces, as are Gerrards, and I think that greatly swings people's impression of them. Gerrard's been key to us in terms of his passing and launching counter attacks, so yeah, he's had a great season, but not second best in the league form. Toure's had a good season for goals, but in terms of midfield play, has done very little and often goes missing. Suarez then Hazard, for me, followed by the likes of Lallana, Ramsey (despite his injuries), Aguero and maybe Coleman. Goals are weighted far too highly by people and stat folk. Skrtel's the top rated defender ffs! He's had a good season, and I've always backed him despite many on here laying into him, but never the top defender this season. Coleman, Terry, Cahil, Kompany, Azpilicueta and Baines have all been far better - plus probably many others I've forgotten.
Toure is the best all round midfield player in the division. 19 league goals, 7 assists and a 90% pass completion average. Overrated, yeah sure
Still need to put them away to be fair. Double figures for goals and assists, from a defensive midfield position which he'd never played in before. Not saying he should have been there, but he'd played very well this year and been a more consistent performer than Henderson, while Sturridge has probably missed too many games.
I can see why some people claim Toure is overrated and he's lazy/lacks discipline in that midfield which puts his team at risk, but then you have to take into account what the manager is asking from him? With Fernandinho sitting behind him, he probably does have more license to go forward and nt worry about the defensive aspects. He still does his bit defensively but he offers such a drive from that midfield and is exactly the thing we've been missing this year. Look at his goal v Palace last week, picked it up just inside half way line, played couple of one-two's powered his way through, got through 1 challenge then curled a beauty into the corner. The guy is brilliant at what he does and I'd have him in my team every day.
I would take Ramsey, Barkley, Fernandinho, Wilshere over him as central midfield players. Edit, and Lallana For the record, over rated doesn't instantly make someone bad. It makes them over rated - ie, not as good as others make out. Toure is a very good player, but not some kind of unstoppable, midfield beast with god like power and passing which the media and plenty of fans suggest. He's very good going forward, but completely useless defensively. When Kompany's out, City fall to pieces suggesting he's not much of a leader either. When Toure's out, they'll still pick up points so he's not as key to their team as say Aguero, who they did miss. So yeah, very good player, but over rated in that he's not as vital to City as he's made out to be, nor is he as brilliant an all round player as the media would have us believe. He has serious weaknesses; hence, over rated.
what has happened to me? how did it come to this? I have lived a good life (apart from gambling, drugs and women) so why oh has it come to the point that I agree with tobes. I feel so unclean
Yeah, I decided to read this post since I figured you might be responding to mine Toure is bone idle lazy. Our midfield doesn't work with lazy players. We need players who press, attack and defend. Ergo, Toure would not fit our midfield. The ones I mentioned are all round midfielders who do work hard. They'd fit in better. That is not saying they are superior players, but that they fit our style better. So take your pathetic, demeaning and critical opinions elsewhere. You need to either grow up (seriously, how old are you? ) or learn what a discussion means because it seems you've missed the whole point of a football forum where people are entitled to share their thoughts and discuss others' views. You also need to learn to read a bit better. I never said he was bad. I never said he was worse than Wilshere, yet your posts suggest I've claimed both. Moron.
I think it's more of a scatter gun approach by just, say enough things and you will get something right eventually.
Hahah got me on ignore my arse, you bullshitting gobshite Oh and you said you'd take Wilshere over Toure, which is saying that you think he's the better choice ergo the better player Liverpools midfield was never mentioned, you merely said he was overrated.
You are, actually. http://prntscr.com/3ggtu4 Shame my control panel doesn't say when you were put on ignore though, that would quickly discredit yet another one of your sorry posts. You do sit there as the only person on my ignore list though, congrats on being rated lower than the GC population Clearly, I can choose to open up one of your posts should I choose to. In the case of this thread, I did. Look, it's very simple Toblerone. I'm a Liverpool fan. Hence, I would take Wilshere over Toure in Liverpool's midfield. Can I spell that out any clearer? Or did you think I was suggesting I would play Wilshere over Toure for the Notts County team? It's like you're trying to use Braile to read these posts...
Glad to see Skrtel as high as 12th (had been 9th)... he has been a fantastic player for us this season. Indeed 6 of the top 15 are Liverpool players!
I don't think we've had brothers playing together. Imagine what the Toure family are thinking at the moment about the title race. I remember at the beginning of the year Hamann called Yaya a ‘defensive liability’ and said he was a major reason behind the club’s indifferent defensive record as he failed to track runners. So you're not alone in your view of him.
