I'm sure our demise this season has made many a jack a happy bunny this weekend - it's only par for the course amongst rival supporters in real life, and particularly so on a football chat forum. We need to accept it and the crap that's thrown our way as just that and move on.

So pleased we got there in the end, but hugely unimpressed by our season in the spotlight. The cost of the experience may well outweigh any initial benefits, and it's hard to see any justification for Tan chase the dream again other than the fact that his vanity might get the better of his bank balance.

This season has been a disaster on and off the pitch, and the time has surely come for those who hold any influence at all to recognise it. With the correct approach - that's management, money and getting the supporters back onside rather than alienating the majority, the Championship campaign next season will be far more enjoyable than this latest sorry affair.

Now the inevitable has happened, perhaps I can ask that this thread is used to discuss which approach we'd like the club to take regarding next season and not respond to taunts from elsewhere. Visitors are obviously more than welcome to post their points of view, but it's meant as a discussion thread, not a slanging match.
 
Personally I believe the club needs a major shake up. I do not think OGS is the man to takes us back up and a replacement needs to be found.
Caulker & Medel will be back in the premiership or other top league come the start of next season. Marshall may well stay with us unless silly money is offered for him.
I still think Whitts can do a job for us in the championship as do a few others but... do we stick with them or try and get players who will get us up and keep us there? A difficult ask but not impossible. I think a lot will depend on whether OGS is still manager but I personally hope he is replaced and a more experienced manager is found.
 
Yep Taff - I tend to agree about Ole's tenure on the job being in jeopardy. If he was given the backing he needs and the time to build something, I think he could eventually prove to be a very astute manager. The problem is, this seems to be all about quick returns as a club for the owner and I don't think patience is one of his virtues.

If Ole gets a dozen games and achieves a decent top 6 position by then, he could carry on - if not, he'll be replaced no question. Whether he sees the start of next season with us is still very uncertain.
 
I want the colors changed back to Blue and our old badge back on. Clearly Tan's idea's of a "LACKY RED" have obviously worked a treat! (Bravo Mr Tan.. Bravo <ok>). As you said Spark, he needs to work on building back the faith of alienated fans and people who really wish the worst for him.. I am not one of those people, I just want my club back to how it was! If that means missing out on the play offs on goal difference or losing to Blackpool in the play off final.. Breaking my heart when we miss out on promotion or screaming my head off in excitement when we score a vital goal.. All I want is our club back!
 
My fear is that lack of bottle in season defining matches has been a worrying trend over many years now. Apart from last season, when we practically sewed the league up by the end of february, we have thrown away our aspirations in huge matches at the end of the season pretty much every season since 2003. We have made many a happy jack in many a happy cup final/playoff match for many a year now... And it cant be blamed on tan as it was a problem long before he came.

How do you address the issue of a club so fundamentally lacking in backbone? Players? Managers? Should the fans do something different?

Did anyone else spot the potential lack of permanency with OGS in his statement about Zaha earlier in the week?

OGS is still living at the Vale. If he was keen to stay on after this season i would have thought he would have bought somewhere suitable by now not be living in a rented apartment overlooking the training pitch.
 
Where we go from now is fully in Tan's hands, if we backs OGS with a descent transfer budget I can see good times.

Caulker and Fabio have both been on twitter and said they will be staying at Cardiff but it looks Campbell will go to Sunderland.

I think OGS will use any transfer money more sensible than MM did.

I think he will want to bring players in that do play a more expansive game but still have steel in the back bone.

Maybe not time to move on yet , aswandam has an article on our board saying that Cardiff , Norwich and Fulham are going after Sunderland for playing a player they weren't allowed to

Straw clutching <ok> we are not Sheffield United and this bullshit should not go any further. Sunderland deserve their Premier League status and we deserve our Championship one

I'll take your question as genuine. Clearly the colour change was counter productive in every way possible. Potentially the poorest regional merchandise sales in years, miniscule far east interest and a split fan base as a consequence.
 
I think Ole will stay for your start of season but if things arent as they should be by Xmas then he will go. It may well be the same situation for us as well!

As to players coming and going it is anyone's guess although I would expect some high value bids for Marshall as he was certainly in the top two in the PL if not top keeper in my view.

It will be interesting to see who misses out in the Championship play offs so you know who your competition is next season. It will be a keenly contested Championship next season and Fulham and probably Norwich doing everything to get back up straight away.

Nest season will be a good one. Too much gloom at the moment.

Ole should be given a full season and told that to keep his job at the end of the season he needs top 8 or better. The proviso would be that by the New Year, he needs to be at least 9 points clear of the relegation places to see out the season. I don't want to start a merry-go-round of a new manager every 6 months!

I would like Ole to keep faith with many of the current squad. I do not want Tan to offer a war chest. To me, we have enough in the squad to do well, and I want us to settle down and have a season focusing on football.

Keepers: Lewis will be fine + a loanee to come in (No way we will still have Marshall).

Defenders: Hudson, Turner, Cala, Nugent. Super Kev, Taylor, Theo, and John are a better group than what we got promoted with. I would also keep Connolly because he can play anywhere across the back. Fabio is a maybe but Lappin, and Brayford to go. If Caulker stays??? then Connolly can go.

Midfielders: Cowie, Daehli, Noone, Kim, Whitts, Gunnarson, Ralls, and Eikrem to stay. I think Mutch will get taken by a Prem club, and Medel will also leave (for a loss). Kiss and Smith can be let go. This is the one place we need to spend some money yo get some speed and creativity, so for me, 1 signing or 1 very good loanee.

Forwards: FC, Maynard, Mason, Berget, and Jones (and some guy we have signed already). This is a better attack then we ever had in the Champ previously. I would keep Jones because a full preseason, some faith by the manager, and he could well go crazy in the Champ. If FC goes we may need one more player here.

This squad should be up the top end of the table.

Think I mentioned last year my thoughts on what I would do, were I in charge of Cardiff.

Bellamy has impressed me with a number of his comments in the year you guys went up. Whilst obviously competitive with us, he drew on specific ideas from what we have done that other clubs can look at. None of the nonsense about there being only one way to play football Tika-taka etc. I like the way we play, but I think there's more than one way to make a Kitty-coat. I mean, he highlighted the need for a specific ethos and syle of play running through a club to build and have consistent success. Again, we were crap this year and very lucky to be safe without reaching 40 points, but I think that is the way forward.

Cardiff's ethos isn't ours and vice-versa. Your tradition has been to build power in the spine and be direct (not in a critical sense). I guess playing like Man U/Chelsea hybrid of the championship. Take that as the ethos, hire staff/managers/players to fulfill this style and build consistency.

I would have Craig Bellamy in charge with an experienced no.2. A lot of them were booted out by Man U when Moyes went in there, so could be an option. Even the guy who went to manage Fulham. Build an experienced backroom.

Having Bellamy in charge might be a starting point for building passion and leadership. Soemone commented about a concern about tailing off under pressure, so I would look to build the team to counter that. Medel will obviously go and it sounds like Campbell too. Maybe Caulker will stay, would be straneg for him to have come out and say that he was staying if he intended to race off. In which case, I would bring Hudson back in beside Caulker and find a leader in midfield. Someone to hold and lead the fight.

I fear Jones plays to the level. I may be wrong, but I suspect, when he should be battering championship teams, he'll play within himself and get 12 goals. I may be wrong. I would look to a championship/league 1 striker who is in form but possibly running down a contract. Someone passionate and on the way up.

Anyway, those are my thoughts - get someone Cardiff through and through to lead you. But back him up with experience.

Likewise, best will in the world, if you had brought in Pulis, he would have brought in Ledley and, with Bellamy, that would have really helped.
