Seen a lot of noise coming from the Spuds this week about us 'tapping up' Modric.

Am I missing something or are the only actuall comments made regardingly this transfer have come from the player, his agent, old slippery fingers Redknapp and Levy.

We (accordingly to the agent and Levy) made a bid, it was rejected. What have we done that it so wrong?

We haven't even gone public with it let alone been seen in some hotel foyer with his agent.

    Spuds...different breed.

If you can step out of arsenal's shadow long enough to formulate a proper response....

Bless em, you can't really pick on them though, it's too easy.

A club that brings out a DVD everytime they beat us in a league game (FFS!!) should be patted on the head and told 'well done' a little bit like the kid that comes last at sports day but still gets a medal.

I know. They are alleging a tap up because they are bitter and can't accept their best player would leave them at a drop of a hat if he had the chance.

Fact is we made a bid and that alone was enough for him and his agent to start talking up a move. FFS Falcao is already angling for a move to us because Boas is on his way - have we tapped him up as well?!?!?!

Yeah, because Chelsea would never tap anyone up, would they?

You made an enquiry about his availability and were told that he wasn't available at any price.
Then you waited a short while before making a bid that you knew was never going to be accepted.
Modric then made some statements that sounded a lot like he'd been in contact with somebody at the club.

Now, you can deny it all you like, but it looks like a tap up, even if you don't take your previous history with such things into account.
Feel free to claim ignorance all you want, but at the very least, it looks dodgy.

Your find Chelsea enquired at the same time of lodging the initial bid. As far as I'm aware Chelsea have made no further bids. Its as clear as day Modric wants out of Spurs the 'Newcastle of the South' and keeping him against his will, is bound to impair his regard for the club and his performances and could sour the barrel if left to brood. Enjoy your mid-table mediocrity<ok>

Again, making a low bid is a large leap to tapping up. We are fully entitled to make any bid we choose at any time, likewise Spurs can reject said bid. That's not tapping up. Yes it alerts the player that we are interested but no more so than when any manager expresses he likes a player (of which 'old slippery fingers redknapp is one of the worst for).

I'm struggling to see what Modric said that implies we talked to him. Please provide the quote...

I wont deny it goes on, probably at all clubs. This is how Ronaldo ended up at Madrid, Berbatoss at United etc. Right or wrong we are not unique to it and this Modric example seems a very mild case if at all.

I think the problem is that you made your 22 million offer public after you'd already been told where to go, hence turning the player's head. That's a pretty public tapping up although for you guys it's par for the course.

Redknapp says that he likes every player that any journalist asks him about.
Instead of saying nothing, which he should, he says that they're 'triffic'.

Bidding for Modric didn't let him know that you were interested.
Levy hinted as much when he suggested that you leaked the bid to the press.
The leak allowed the player to express an interest in signing for you and his comments suggested that he'd already been talked to.

Ask neutral fans if they think he was tapped up.
I don't think that this is paranoia.

Right feel free to correct me if I'm wrong but who made the bid public?? Wasn't it Modric's agent??? Who does Modric's agent work for, Chelsea??? Not the last time I checked. Next person to make the bid public, general Levy. Now does he work for chelsea?? Again not the last time I checked.

In fact it seems the only party not talking publicly about this is Chelsea where as Modric, his ageny, Levy and Redknapp haven't shut up about it for the last week.

Seems more like tapping up for a bigger offer to me!!

Again, blame the player's agent, who is employed by the player.

Why would his agent be to blame?
Levy's statement suggested that the player and his agent wouldn't have been made aware of the bid, if not for the leak.

Modric's pro-Chelsea comments included talk of their ambitions, which is something that you normally hear from someone that's been in communication with a club.
It's far more common to talk about what the club have done in the past, rather than what they aim to do, unless you actually know what they aim to do.
His virtual elimination of any other move was also quite strange, to say the least.
