"And why despite our finishing 4 years below Spurs it never affected our comparative financial standings"

1. So what you are saying is that where you finish in the PL wrt to a "small club" like Spurs is irrelevant,
because your "comparative financial standings" were unaffected ??

"and we got a cup into the bargain"

2. We got one finishing miles below you in the PL, and with far less revenues.

1. We have a name for clubs like that : Arsenal.
2. The mighty Poool slide into small club mediocrity laid bare. :)

We were Champions of Europe the last season Spurs won a trophy.

Suarez did all he could to leave last summer, yes player power has a big big part to play and Suarez may very well end up going should Madrid and the press go overboard again, however he's shown that he isn't the type to sulk, he's having his best season of football he's ever had and thats after being forced to train with the reserves in pre-season (even signing a new contract a couple of months after).

The difference, and the point I was trying to make is, we are not (or at least should not be) a 'selling' club, Suarez is worth far far more to us than cash in the bank. If HAIG is right, and he's the difference between us being in a champions league place (not least challenging for the title) it would make zero financial sence to sell him at any price given that it could amount to £20mill+ difference in revenue every season. As your manager said, for all the money you rinsed Madrid out for Bale, it wasn't worth it when that players contribution amounts to the difference between being champions league contenders and 6th place. Even forcing him to play out his contract and leave for nothing (given that he gives his all regardless) could be worth more than £60-£80million pounds that he may fetch.

Im not saying he won't end up leaving, but I would be surprised (It would have been a given, had we not qualified for the champions league)

Madrid didn't bid for Luis Suarez last summer because their no1 transfer target was Bale.

This summer they will go all out for Luis Suarez and he will go.

I'm almost certain of that. As league winners you will be able to choose from a much larger pool of players to replace him though.

Just don't do what we did and sell him and buy 7 average players.

"We were Champions of Europe the last season Spurs won a trophy."

The Poool won the CL in one of the 2006-7 / 2007-8 seasons ?? Did I miss that !!??

"There's such long periods of time between Spurs successes its difficult to pinpoint the years involved."

The last time Spurs were in a domestic cup final they qualified for the CL the next season.
If only the Poool had paid more attention to the danger signs. :D

The guys on this board will tell you that I was adamant that Bale wouldn't leave, even as the Real tapping-up machine moved into overdrive. But I was wrong.

In the end, a mixture of (a) top dollar, and (b) Bale's own desire to move on, forced Levy's hand.

Make no mistake, that Real will do everything they can to unsettle Goofy and encourage him to force a move. The key to everything is going to be Goofy's own frame of mind. If he feels that he's unlikely to get another chance to make a dream move to Real, there is absolutely no way 'Pool will hold on to him. And without him, you won't stand a chance in either the league or the CL, especially with it now looking incredibly likely that United is going to be spending big money to mop up any of the players that £ity, Chavs, Arsenal, us, PSG, Bayern, Barca, and others do not buy, first.

they are already trying to unsettle Saurez, saying they will sell players to fund his signature

There's such long periods of time between Spurs successes its difficult to pinpoint the years involved.

Spurs have been yearning for CL footy since its inception, our 1 win and 2 finals is more than Spurs will ever achieve.

But don't give up trying.<whistle>

You made a ridiculous, completely false statement and I pulled you up on it. Now, usual mouser behaviour - retreat and cite the past!..

"they are already trying to unsettle Saurez, saying they will sell players to fund his signature"

And the UK footy press muppets have so easily spread the word. Again. <doh>

Another Scouse psychic. Your club's already given the world Derek Acorah. Isn't that more than enough?

Marca are really pushing the boat out, judging by these two stories published within a week of each other last month...

Version #1: Suarez wants to leave England (which roughly translates as wanting to join Factitious Madrid)
Version #2: Suarez has agreed to join Man City (which will then allow City to sell Aguero to Factitious Madrid)

So which version of the story will become more dominant over the summer?

Of course real wsnt luis. He is one of the best players in the world. Will they get him? I hope not. There is a big difference betwee bale lesving you for madrid and the chances of luis leaving us. Like it or not we are a club going somewhere and we are one of the most loved in the world. We gave alot more holding power than Spurs. If he does go we will nake a packet and dpend it on some if the eorlds best talents rather than just highlighting names in the suns gossip column like you boys did. Honestly think he wil be a livrtpool player next year though.
