The club website says we're off to the Faroe Islands for the first qualifying round. Of the five clubs we were pooled with, it's the worst journey (involving ferries and stuff, I think) but not the strongest opposition we could have had. Best of all, we're at home for the first leg, which will make a time consuming journey less disruptive for the players settling back into pre-season training.
WDWW, aren't Crusaders from Northern Ireland? Also, the club website is now saying that the order of the home and away legs hasn't been confirmed yet. Apparently it may change. Let's hope not.
Faroe islands - not ideal but at least we haven't got to go to the back of beyond in Khazakstan or Azibijan. Makes a ferry trip seem like a jaunt by comparison.
NSI Runavik in 2007 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JLHfeHBLyUE but by the looks of the pitches, goalkeepers kit and their boots...theirs might be an artificial pitch. Bit dodgy on the old injuries early on..... Both ties against NSI and Crusaders are subject to date changes. At present there are flights in June from Stansted to Vargar for about £500+
Thanks, Badgers. To be honest, that comment applies to anyone we could have been drawn against. Our biggest fear was a long journey. Faroe Islands isn't the most convenient, but it was a lot better than it could have been. Good spot with the artificial pitch, SuperBrian. Let's hope the legs don't get switched and we can do well enough at the Cottage not to send any of the senior players for the away leg.
WE ARE GOING ON EUROPEAN TOUR !!!!!!!!!!!!!! All been a bit in the background up until now but now it is for real. Playing in the Faroe Isles is what this tournament is about. Although, it is a flipping long way and not to mention a tad pricey. We definately try to get to the Cottage for the first leg. Hopefully we can get the job done at home and be able to rest some players for the second leg. As for the second leg against Crusaders, one step at a time. If I am not mistaken the Faroe Isles should be light for most of the day about this time of year, day light at midnight !!!
Something about nothing really. Because of work commitments wasn't able too find about the draw during today, so grabbed a Standard to read all about it on the tube home. Not a peep - so what's new you say; same old same old. Not to worry, switch on 5live as soon as I get in. Not a peep. Guess we can forget the second leg(s) being on telly.
did the same not even a mention in the standard...shocking. Lets see what Jol's got to say about it tomorrow.
Do they have a broadcasting company on the Faroe Islands who could host coverage? You sort of get the impression the place is like the setting for a Will Hay film.
I jokingly suggested the Faroes at the outset, and we got it! Love to go, but think the journey might not be doable on 7/7. So if anyone finds TV/Internet coverage please do let us know. Looking forward to Crusaders at The Cottage on 21/7, but also the Round 3 Draw on 15/7 (ignoring "counting chickens" of course).
In my ignorance I typed 'Faroe Islands' into Google to see what it was like. Looks nice and peaceful (apart from the few Whale pictures!!!) but it seems deserted. There is only one hotel in the area that the Stadium is based.
Tickets for the home leg are now on sale for season ticket holders. They go on general sale tomorrow at 9am, but somehow I don't see this one being a sell out. Prices are between £5 and £15, depending on where in the ground you want to be. £5 for the Hammersmith End makes me wish I was local enough to get to this one. The club have also confirmed that the home and away legs are not going to be switched, but they haven't confirmed kick off time for either match yet.
I want to come along but (say kick off is 7.45pm) I will only have a few hours to drive over to the Cottage and it gets stupidly busy
I read somewhere that when Man City drew a Faroe Isles side a few years ago a bunch of supporters took the ferry to the Shetlands and then hired a fishing trawler. Anyone game?
