There seems to be general consensus in our office that the top three should be Rodgers, Pulis and Martinez with it being a tight decision between Rodgers and Pulis. What do you guys think?
Considering what he took over, viz,League position;playing staff;etc.,I would close the betting and give it to Pulis - today! Palace looked dead and buried before his arrival. He is a much maligned, unglamourous, hard to like individual, but my goodness,he's done such a fantastic job at Palace, who now safely look down on the likes of Villa,Swans',Hull,WBA,et al,whereas they previously had stiff necks from constantly looking up at everyone. Take a bow Mr. Pulis, you deserve it.
1. Pulis - Performed a miracle. 2. Rodgers - Ex-Swansea manager. A masterclass in getting the best out of your players. 3. Martinez - Another ex-Swansea manager. Made David Moyes' achievements look even more average.
Kenny Jacket has done a great job at Wolves'. All those ex Swansea Managers doing so well. There must be something in the water down here.
Much easier to get results with players such as Suarez, Sturridge, Sterling, Coutinho and Gerrard etc. Also, let's not forget that Liverpool's immediate rivals were ALL heavily involved in European matches, which we know to our cost takes its toll. Nonetheless, Rodgers has done very well and gets second place for me. Pulis, on the other hand, took on a team that looked nailed on for relegation. They were dispirited, playing rubbish football: just a bunch of average Joes going through the motions. Then Pulis grabbed them by the scruff of the neck, hauled them off their backsides, changed tactics and got them playing with pride and spirit making 100% use of the team's limited playing ability. They are now safe from relegation and I think that Pulis deserves the award by a big margin. If Garry Monk thinks that he improved our team's spirit, desire, fight and motivation, he should take a look at Pulis and see how it's really done.
I agree. I've always said that the mark of a talented manager isn't one that gets results with huge resources it's the one who does it on a budget. Pulis walks it for that reason alone. Rodgers wasn't expected to get anywhere near the top 4 this season but has done brilliantly. Pascoe must feel he's won the lottery Martinez is the obvious third choice and I'd say that even if Arsenal pip them.
Steve, agree that Bruce is also doing a cracking job although if he maintains it until the end of the season remains to be seen. Got an FA Cup Final to look forward to as well.
I think Hull are safe which is a great achievement in itself and as you rightly say Ivor they have a cup final to look forward to. To put it in perspective look at Martinez last season. He got Wigan (several seasons in the Prem) the FA cup but with the double edged sword of relegation. If Bruce keeps Hull up in their first season AND wins the cup it would be Roy of the Rovers stuff in my eyes. Always seems a nice enough guy in interviews too.
