leeds have accepted a 1mill offer for Kasper Schmeichel from Leicester think we should be trying to pinch that he was quility every time i saw him last season

I have to agree with History, we have just about managed to be hauled out of the sh'ite now people want to fall right back into it again. If Konchesky wants to take a 80% pay cut and we can get him for free, sign him up. Schmeichel is not going to come to Fratton with the wage cap we have got. Please get real peeps.

You have no idea what wages Kasper is on, and what our wage cap is. With all transfers going through strict FL checks, if he came to Pompey we would be able to afford it, end of.

It won't happen anyway, because:

1 - He doesn't want to leave Leeds
2 - Why would we want him when we have Super Jamie Ashdown in goal!?

1 - He obviously does want to leave as he does not want to sign a new contract and leeds have therefore accepted a bid for him - http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/l/leeds_united/9517827.stm

2 - SC has already said that he was looking for decent competition for Ashdown, Schmeichel is much better anyway

It won't happen anyway, Schmeichel will be on big wages, he is probably the best keeper in the league and a massive prospect. We need to start being realistic and realise that we are no longer a premier league team with loads of money who will be able to attract big name players.

I (regrettably) agree with HR, and SIIC, a few of our younger members really SHOULD get real, and not just repeat every bit of on-lne tatttle, with an overblown blue tint.......

....and I also agree with the last caller!

1: Statement by Kasper himself ---> At the end of the season Leeds United and I both made a commitment to honour the last year of my contract and try to win promotion with Leeds United.
Therefore it is with great disappointment that I have learned that Leeds United have accepted an offer from Leicester.
...I want to put on record that I have never asked to leave the Leeds United, nor did I reject an offer for a new contract, since one was never put to me.
I was enjoying being a Leeds United player and was looking forward to winning promotion this season with the club.
I have spoken to the manager Simon Grayson and he has made it clear to me, that, in spite of having played well for him, this is something he believes is a good deal for Leeds United.
I have been put in a very difficult situation and will spend some time considering my options for my future

2: Decent competition for Ashdown, not someone who's going to come in and automatically become number 1.

I disagree anyway, I don't thiknk that he is all that brilliant, and as I previously stated, I have no idea about how high his wages are, so unless you know then I don't think either of us can comment.

Also, we may be able to attract "big names" for all you know (is Kasper considered a big name anyway)? I mean, we bought in a few premier league players last season, and that was before CSI took over.

This lack of any realistic transfer news/speculation/rumour is just the calm before the storm I hope!!!!! Clocks ticking fellas, can't take 8 players on a pre-season tour!!!!

I agree, i think its maybe because they started supporting pompey during the last 10 years and have false expectations. Ok so i'm only 22 but my earliest memories of watching pompey are when we were Division 1, struggling every year, staying up on the last day of the season most years, with no money and the likes of Paul Hall and Fitzroy Simpson playing. We have to start being more realistic and accept that at the moment we are again a mediocre championship side who are not going to attract the best players.

1) Ok fair enough i didn't see that interview.

2) Why would he automatically become number 1? surely if Ashdown was as good as you are making him out to be he could keep his place?

3) Course he's a big name for this league anyway, not only because of his dad but he has proven he is one of the best goalkeepers in the league and he is only 24.

4) Premier League players we bought in were Kitson and Lawrence who were very reluctant to join, and to be honest Kitosn could hardly be classed as a premier league player and the others were Dickinson and Sonko, don't know about you but i wouldn't class either of them as premier league players and Halford who has never really played a lot of premier league football.

1: No problem, always happy to help ;)
2: If you are bringing Kasper in, you'd expect him to come to be garunteed a starting role, not a bench warmer.
3: I'd agree that it's helpful having a famous father, but I would disagree with him being one of the best in the league. Personal opinion I guess?
4: The fact is, those players WERE premier league players, and I don't think they were reluctant to join at all. I'd agree that Sonko and Dicko weren't really premier league quality, but they were premier league players at the time.

In the squad we had:

Lawrence (class!)
Kitson
Sonko
Dickinson
De Laet (class!)
Halford (class!)

That is over half the squad filled with premier league players. We signed Rocha at the beginning of last season too... Kanu is a legend, who also signed at the beginning of last season. A lot of premier league players there by the looks of things :)

i have supported pompey for over 20 years so i remember watching southend and grimsey down a fratton park may of been young at the time! any way i dont see why we couldn't test the water we need another keeper hes quality and from whats been going around with players we've been linked are all about 1mill! we need players fast that have quality and young and will get beter with a good sell on rate which he would have!

a. He wouldn,t come to warm the bench !
b. If hes so good why weren't Liverpool, Man U and Arsenal trying to get him as they are all looking for a good keeper?
c. Almost certainly too expensive and would want a long contract.

Why couldn't WE afford the £5 million
Why couldn't WE afford his wages
Surely WE are a better option than Wolverhampton - he said he liked it down here
Isn't he the type of player WE should be going for

.....come on Pompey - make it happen

Only one of those is true.......:emoticon-0103-cool:

Jason Pearce would be a good signing, impressive in that play-off game up at Huddersfield. Would be nice to see Pompey go for some young talent from the lower leagues for once. Work rate, energy and teamwork- Look at Norwich!!
