I´ve got nothing against talking up our chances, in fact I wish there´d been a lot more of it done, and support shown, when Hughton had been here, but let´s at least keep it within the realms of realism. Contrary to what some think, I´m not sure we are masters of our own fate, I think our fate lies solely in the hands of how Cardiff and Fulham play out the season. Realistically I can see Cardiff beating Stoke at home, and drawing possibly one or both of Sunderland and Newcastle away, Fulham I can see beating both Hull and C. Palace at home, which, if correct, would mean that we have to find at least 4 more points from somewhere. Our best chances are clearly against Man U and Arsenal, but whether we can honestly expect a win and a draw from those two, is at the very least, doubtful. We certainly have to find at least two more points to get us above Swansea and W. Brom, if the worst case scenario does happen, and Cardiff reach 33 points and Fulham reach 36, and that is assuming that both Swansea and W. Brom lose all their remaining games. Can´t honestly see us being able to find any salvation in Villa´s situation either, although that would have been the best way to stay up imaginable.
Nope, just being realistic, and incidentally I could have said the same to you hundreds of times this season alone, but very decently, refrained.
"could have"? I think you probably did. Anyway, this is the Optimism Thread. Realism doesn't come into it.
Oh I think you´ll find realism will come into it, it generally does, but optimise away, by all means.
Look if you want to be "realistic" start your own thread. This is the optimists thread and you're bringing it down man Seriously Hughton should've been sacked months ago, shocking performances and appalling win ratio. If I churned out that level of performance I'd get a kick up the bum, yes players take some of the blame but tactics, subs etc comes back to the manager. When Hughton ever read the game and make a substitution that actually improved the team, I can't think of one sadly and it seems from the bits n bobs coming from the dressing room he had the players wound up about not making mistakes.
Guys we should put this argument to bed now, lets focus on the task at hand at pushing the boys over the line, the time for reassessment is at the end of the season not now
Good to see you gg, just wish it was under better circumstances and on a thread that hadn't degenerated into a children's playground, I can't believe the treatment dealt to RBF, one of our finest and kindest posters!
Cheers Guru much the same still on plethora of pills, finally have pain clinic appt on 24th,but been back at work full time since late Feb so that's a bonus. I guess you'd say it's kind of managed at the moment lol. Thanks for asking chap, hope all is well for you.
yeah fine thanks, well at least they are finding a way to manage it at the moment, hopefully they can sort you out a more long term solution in the not to distant future. keep strong mate.
Thank you Dave and Resurgam, probably was a bit foolish of me to try and instill a bit of realism into the thread, but if we can´t respect each others viewpoints without resorting to that sort of thing, then I´m afraid the board will soon die. As it happens I also think that it wouldn´t be entirely uncharacteristic if we did pick up something from one or more of these last games, but I´m just not sure where the hell the points are going to come from, or if it will be enough.
