    Monday's racing comes from:

    Kelso (NH)

    Redcar and Windsor (Flat, Turf)

I have been drawn to the 14.40 at Windsor.

This looks to be between Star Code and Gone With The Wind (unfortunately as now indicated by the market; but I won't let that deter me, having done the work).

Back in September, Star Code beat 2/5 fav Pool House by ½l over 6f on soft. Since then, Pool House has had 2 seconds and 3 wins before finding Ertijaal 3¼l too good at levels last month. That was Ertijaal's second win from 3 outings, having been beaten a nk by Toormore on début. On that line of form that should put Starcode in with an excellent shot if he has trained on. His third and last run of the season was over 8f on AW where he was beaten 1¾l, giving 3lb away to the winner. Tomorrow he is back on turf over 6f and being by Kodiac I would think that is a more suitable distance, particularly with a bit of juice in the ground.

Gone With The Wind has not raced on turf, which is a bit of a worry, but he has won both his races this year, over 6f, notably (receiving 4lb) and handing out a 1½l defeat to Taquka who had previously been beaten only a nose by Pool House. He is by top class 2yo and 3yo Dutch Art out of a Danehill mare so the turf should not be a problem.

Star code was 7/1 tissue but shows as only 4/1 whilst Gone With The Wind was 3/1 tissue but available at 7/2 with B365.

2 points on each out of interest, gives me about evs against the field. Not particularly good value but it looks a fairly boring day's racing.

Good luck anyone who has a bet.

    Redcar 3.50
    2 points Cloverdale 7/2
2 points Knight Owl 5/1 (WH)
1 point Capaill Liath 10/1 (Coral)

That's me finished for a Monday

Well remembered. He is a horse I thought would win when sent handicapping. However he did rather blot his copybook last backend with signs of temperament. This race tomorrow is quite a hot handicap and to be honest his pedigree really doesn't shout "miler" to me. I would watch him tomorrow. If you have to have a bet make iot a small one.

How odd to see R Hannons Windsor 2yo record as 0-0.

In their first two year old race tomorrow I will be looking with interest at FINE PRINCE. Robert Mills has a great strike rate with his two year olds here and as this one is a January foal he could be well forward. Jimmy Fortune takes the ride and that does nothing to put me off!

Over at Redcar Bill Turners Brocklesby runner up, PADDY AGAIN, is out again and really should put his experience to good use!

(Dave, Stick: like my sister-in-law, whom she so accurately describes, I think MH is a she).

Moving on to things that really matter, I'm going to the pub shortly to wind up the resident Professional Gloomy Jock behind the bar. Can anyone tell me:

    a) what price Andy Murray was to win his match today before the start?
    b) which of the following did he courageously refuse to blame for his defeat ?
    stomach upset/match fatigue/unfamiliar surface/muscle strain/

Having had another look, the first race at Redcar looks interesting. It has an odds on fav but there is a very interesting newcomer in the shape of Sarista. Sired by Kodiac, who, by Danehill out of a Kris mare, is the second leading sire of 2yos in Europe and a good source of early 2yos. Sarista's dam is a total unknown but is by Whipper (Champion French miler) and grandson of the brilliant Miesque and Sadlers Wells. The fav is quite well bred as well and has the experience of a run but it will be interesting to see how this filly runs on her début. Some money has come for her so probably no value for ew but, at 11/2, a place bet could be better value than the odds on fav.

Afternoon, comrades. Hope everyone well. Lasagne, roasties and carrots. 7/10.

Just read the headline on the paper and it says that a load of NH saddle monkeys are revolting! Cor blimey tell me something I don’t know. I’ve always believed they were Revolting with a capital ‘R’. What, what?!?

Interesting to see on Wednesday in a Listed heat at Notters the ‘dynamic duo’ of Mr Henderson and 'King' Kieron combine with the mare Earth Amber (4.10). This one was 2nd in the contest last term and although she's been somewhat disappointing since the combination of the best trainer of his generation and the best jockey of his generation looks formidable beyond words.

A profitable Aintree for me overall (thanks in the main to Mr Henderson's novice hurdle double on Friday) but not a great GN. Beat That is going to be some horse next season and now connections must decide whether to go down the novice chasing or 'World Hurdle' route. Best sight of the Aintree meet though, for me, was Sam Waley-Cohen and Long Run walking away in one piece. Such a relief.

    Good luck all.

    Afternoon all!!

Very decent Aintree so let's see if we can keep the good luck going.

I have backed Prosecco 6/1 in the 3:00 at Kelso. Won last time out with the re-opposing Sudski Star (receiving 20lb) 2 lengths away in 3rd and Edmund (receiving 14lb) a further 1 1/2 lengths back in 4th. Edmund has since come out to win by 8 lengths and only receives 9lb today. On these revised terms I think the veteran Prosecco has an outstanding chance of following up today with the danger being 6 year old Sudski Star if he improves at a 'normal' rate.

Anyway, that's my tuppence worth. Good luck anyone who plays today.

Will take a chance with Sudski Star in the upcoming 15:00 at Kelso, although he might need a stiffer test than this............
