I was away for the Saints game. How was the performance? I just saw us get walked over by Benfica (missed 2nd leg), watched us huff and puff against Arsenal and watched us get embarassed by Liverpool so my views might be a bit skewed by missing the 2 most recent games we didn't lose
"You've had you days in the sun it's now back to midtable obscurity for Spurs which will feel much more comfortable for you." Nice to know those 4 yrs have not made Poool supporters deluded and bitter about it (that kind of behaviour could spawn an article in its own right you know) ...
I was at the game, and it was an entertaining game. We were poor first 30 mins (as usual) and went 2 down. Soldado and Eriksen were very good in the second half and got us back into it quickly. Siggy scored a belter in the last minute, which flattered us slightly. Was actually good to see Soton, they are an entertaining team. I do think Lallana, Rodriquez and Lambert should go to Brazil. Would mean Wellbeck missing out. But hey ho.
"That's incredible, isn't it? 45% of our goals conceded in 4 games!" <consolidification> Also consider Spurs could end up with the highest ever PL points total with the worst GD (we are homing in on our 60 pts and +3 GD for 2006-7) . This season feels like the "2 from 8" to me, yet the PL position could not be any more different if you tried.
Didn't we finish like 8th after Redknapp came in? So there is time yet Although i am just guessing at 8th
"Although i am just guessing at 8th" Yep. 51 pts with zero GD. So the highest pts finish for 8th with the worst GD is another possible. Finishing on 70 pts with negative GD is not possible now. GD of zero at worst.
So what you are saying is basically: "Lots to play for" Hahaha, the players might not agree but some fans would enjoy a stupid record or 2.
"Lots to play for" <echoes of glory> 2011-12 : Catastrophic final third collapse leading to no CL. But also a superb sequence of P11 W10 D1. 2012-13 : Failed to get CL. Highest ever PL points total (AFAIK) for a club not to get a CL slot. Best away form for the club in the PL era (won 11 - that is doable again) . I would consider 70 pts and zero GD as being true to the above.
It would certainly be funny to finish 5th with a zero (or negative) goal diff considering the GD of Arsenal, Everton and Utd. Two of which we will have to finish above to do so. I'm all energised about the season again! C'mon 1-0 wins!
Finishing anywhere with 70 pts would be hilarious (though you might have to ban DL from posting comments afterwards ) .
You're quite right, events have proved that we were no deluded - at least about Spurs being able to sustain a long term presence. Why should we be bitter when we can see you Spuds turning on your managers and Levy?
"You're quite right, events have proved that we were no deluded" Indeed. The 4 seasons of magmanimous Poool 606 recognition that Spurs improved significantly on/off pitch to put you out of the PL/CL "sun" is something we have to commend you for.
We could get 71 points with negative goal difference though..... I still think we'll finish 5th. One out of Everton and Arsenal will mess up and we'll likely get 16 points from the run in
5 wins out of 6 is probably too much for this lot. 4 1-0 wins and 2 draws is just about at my limits of hope.
Southampton have revealed that they owe £27m on player sales, so the stories about half their team buggering off in the summer are probably true, unfortunately. They'll probably be able to make that amount on Shaw alone, but they'll face a battle to keep Lallana, Rodriguez and a few others with all of the vultures circling. We're one of the vultures, by the way!
