Rose has had plenty of quality games this season, regardless of a couple of high profile errors. I think he can grow with this squad next season, he should have had more assists earlier in the season as he played some brilliant crosses into the box but his crossing hasn't been so good lately. It's worth remembering we're an English club too so if we're going write him off, we need to replace him with English again. I liked it at the start of the season when we had 3 of our back 4 as English, it's how it should be imo.
he was never a top L/B,he used to lose concentration at key moments,i have been saying for a while,he is to old now to improve, but Benny fans won't accept it,he's found the level he is at now,and should stay there
You sure that his level as I've seen him get turned inside out by journeyman wingers! Nah, jesting, Ekotto is better then the championship but I keep hearing he's a great full back but has anyone placed a bid? Considering clubs know he's out of favour and top left backs are of short supply.
I went for someone new. Rose is poor and should be sold, I don't buy the whole "he's young and will improve" malarkey and we could probably find someone willing to pay a decent bit of money for him (Sunderland if they stay up). I also don't like Rose's attitude, when he weren't first choice there were constant bitching statements coming from him in the press, he never acknowledges the fans, even when the manager has told him too (someone picked up on that on Twitter, mentioned Tim told him to salute fans and he just ignored instructions and walked down tunnel). Benny is aging and I doubt will ever get back to his best, a season in the Championship won't have helped him, he's been up against lower quality for a year and so if he were to step back into the Prem as first choice, he'd probably need time to adapt to the pace again and at his age, it's a long winded process, so I'd either sell him or keep him as the back up. Fryers looks a decent prospect but needs a run of games, a loan to a Prem side or a top Championship side next season would be ideal for him. As for a new LB, there's a few decent options in my opinion. Criscito was one of the names I've mentioned in the past but his fee may have just slightly risen a bit seeing as his manager is AVB now! Ben Davies of Swansea looks a good talent, 3 years younger than Rose and already better I'd say. Juan Bernat of Valencia looks similar to the player he's replaced - Jordi Alba - in my opinion. Jetro Willems looks like a great full back in the making and if the van Gaal story is true, then there'd be no better manager for him.
Well the LB situation is yet another self-inflicted wound on Spurs. On paper we have a very experienced LB (BAE) who would have been one of the first names on the team sheet up til about a year or so ago, we have a promising (?) younger player who was one of the players of the season for Sunderland last year as back-up and an emerging youngster in Fryers waiting in the wings. However the AVB/BAE spat last year coincided with BAE's unfair reputation for being dodgy actually having some merit - he was not the player we'd seen over the previous few years. And now in the Championship he's not pulling up trees there either apparently. Rose has just never really impressed me - neither as a winger or a full-back. People say he's young and will improve. Well how about a player who's already good being young and likely to improve? Why be forced to play an average player in the hope that they might improve up to the level of "quite good"? The vast majority of players improve but some start from a pretty unspectacular starting level and this is where I see Rose. Fryers I still don't feel I've seen enough of. So from a position where it looks pretty good on paper (if we get BAE back) I'm actually forced to vote "buy a new LB" cos I'm afraid we won't see the same BAE again. Might be wrong though and his "attitude" would suggest that he'd be happy being back-up and "doing his job". I'd flog Rose, bring back BAE and buy in another LB.
Rose is a decent enough player. But his consistency would be my huge worry if I were a Spurs fan. He's a mistake waiting to happen. If you're inspiring to get top 4 next season then ask yourself is Rose top 4 quality? - Clearly the answer is No. It's an area you badly need to improve, so I see no other option than buying abroad. Or is there anyone in your academy that's coming good? Luckily we had Flannagan that came through our academy, and has now developed into a very decent LB/RB. Also with Enrique coming back we're good enough at LB. We need to strengthen our right side as Johnson (although currently on good form) has been terrible for most of the season, and is edging towards the end of his career.
PNP, I think you should offer the 5 voters that chose to stick with Rose another chance to change their minds
I went for Benny, I always liked Benny and put more faith in him than Rose. Rose is absolute garbage and should be playing in the championship with Naughton. While Rose may be young and have time to get better, he won't. He will be another Huddlestone or Lennon where everyone thought they were good but really they spent their entire Spurs career just pulling wool over people eyes. Poor Lloris and Jan, if you played week in, week out with Daws, Naughton and Rose you would lack interest as well. I sure as hell would.
Defenders take more time to mature than attackers at 30 Benny is in his prime. We need the finished article not potential.
