Honestly - all day meeting no chance to check the Sports news and get on the train to see this on my Moby....WTF....not sure what to think tbh....and although in no way a fan of what he's served up so far am wondering if this was wise. Perhaps his "I don't fear anything and will keep doing what I'm doing" did for him. All we can do is give Awf's and Macca our wholehearted backing and sing our hearts out for the lads. It now is time to really back them no matter what.
Perhaps SC will stay and act as a proper assistant (caretaker) manager to Andy Awford, passing on his vast years of experience to the younger man, advising when the right choice of substitution should be made in a game, coaching the wingers, motivating the players, helping us to avoid the drop. Doubt it though, after all, he is Richie's mate, so where do his loyalties lie ? Out of interest, has the goalkeeping coach - Anthony Williams - gone as well ? He was with RB at Bury & Crawley, before coming to Pompey.
Williams was also Richie Barker's assistant, he brought him along from Crawley. I heard on The Football Hour that he was also a very dour man. Must have been a bundle of fun for the players. I don't know if he left or his services were dispensed with though.
If that's the case, bring back David Coles as goalkeeping coach, unless he has got another job since he left us in December. At least he knows what he is doing.
This is really worth a listen. Ashley Brown explains everything very well. http://www.expressfm.com/local/podcasts/the-football-hour-933450/
No good bringing in outside name managers at this stage. It requires people close enough to the club to know the players abilities from day one to take over. Leave the long term appointment to the summer.
Dave Coles was, according to Jamo, the best goalkeeping coach he had ever worked with. He was working with us but Barker got rid of him when he took over.
Cheers 3rd eye - appreciate the link. A good listen and yes he does explain things well and credit to Barker if he held his hands up and admitted it just wasn't working. Here's to the beginning of "The Great Escape".....Ryan Bird being recalled is a good move too. PUP
I'm pretty sure Steve Cotterill got him to join him at Bristol City when Barker dispensed with his services.
Just read that Paul Hardyman has been promoted from the Academy to Pompey's first team to assist Andy Awford & Alan McLoughlin.
Because of their histories, I think the board are hoping that AA & PH can instill some good old Pompey passion into the players.
Hardyman is a legend, like awfs......he will get the players up for it. Rumblings now coing out of the training ground are that th players feared barker......thats no good at all......as manager you have to be the dominant, but approachable! PUP...... where ever we end up
