    Funny you say that..................

I was listening to the BBC 606 Podcast this morning, where a Spurs fan basically came up with the same line of thinking, as he could see no other reason as to why so many soft goals were being given away.

To be honest, nothing would surprise me!! Some of the ''mistakes'' being made are from Sunday league football.

For the first time in ages I sat in the jarold stand and had a really great view of our defensive line and would have to say I can't possibly support Bassong as captain, he wasn't even able to effectively communicate and Marshall the defence most of the time. On several occasions he seemed to want the defence to step up but Yobo and Martin weren't watching or listening it looked a proper shambles at times, seeing that I do wonder how we've kept any clean sheets this season. They just looked like a bunch of individuals back there. Olsson did look good for the main part but Bassong must be dropped he just looks shaky to me not just for the penalty either.
As for the other end you can't fault RvW for his work rate but I'm a little concerned that his confidence has gone to such an extent now that he's not even making the right runs. On two or three occasions I thought he could of ran the shoulder and looked to get in behind but he checked back and no chances were likely from there. It was same old problems really pretty clueless in attack, stupid mistake at the back.

    Bah!

RvW used to make excellent runs off the shoulder of the defenders and in to good space, this was largely ignored and the ball played out to the wings. As a result of this he started coming far deeper to get the ball which obviously puts him out of position when the ball is played in. If he had been playing with someone like Wes behind him all season I think it would be very different. We were to used to hitting the wings and putting a cross in for a header. Now he seems to be being ignored even when he is in good positions, the shot that Pilkington had against Man City could have been pulled back to RvW in space to have a shot from a much better angle, against stoke Redmond slipped a ball into Snodgrass and he had a shot, again RvW was free in the middle of the box, but Snodgrass was only looking for goal and he poor right foot would have mean that he would have struggled to make the pass anyway.

At the start of the season we got a new strike force both talented footballers, both poachers not target men. Despite this large outlay we failed to adjust to a style of play where we could take advantage, last season we had the strikers to play this way and we didn't score a lot, not we don't have the right strikers and, surprisingly, we have scored less.

    - We need to drop the inverted wingers so they can hit the byline and cut the ball back to the strikers like hooper did for Wes at villa, not once this season has a winger don't that.

    - We need to play with greater degree of creativity through the middle and stop playing with 2DMs.

    - We need to develop better quick counter attacking, so frequently we are slowed down whilst breaking by poor passing join behind the player, normally through Johnson or Snodgrass. This has prevented us taking defences whilst they are unorganised. we spend vast amounts of time passing the ball neatly inform of a well organised back of defenders and midfielders but not threatening the goal.

We even brought in the right players to play like this, Redmond would have developed far more if he could play on the Right, if you watch him for the England U21s he constantly gets round full back and cuts the ball back. Fer is the perfect box-to-box mid who could play with Howson slightly further back behind Wes. It's been an infuriating season an i feel very sorry for our strikers, both of whom joined us with a hope of forcing themselves into world cup squads but have failed to make an impression due to a badly set up team.

"Starting to despair"? Have you not been doing that all season already?

Anyone know how long Tina is out for? Is he expected back this season?

No, not at all. I was a confirmed fence-sitter but then the lame humiliation by Fulham at the Cottage in the F A cup replay made my mind up.

According to 'The Physio Room' Turner is out until March 22nd - odd that they can be so specific?

Yes, but you didn´t seriously expect Hughton to publicly state that Bassong is losing his nerve, can´t cope, and is going to be dropped, did you now? Naturally he´s going to back his captain publicly, what he does behind closed doors, is his business. We´ll see....

and, personally, despite his frequent lapses, Bassong is still to my mind, the best to play alongside Yobo. Wouldn´t want to chuck Bennett R. in, at this stage of the season, especially in our current position, not really the time to start experimenting.

Oh, and incidentally, on the subject of going public, well done Jonno, just one more player who can see the situation for what it is, and what´s needed to get out of it.

"It's not right people are talking about his future. All he does at the end of the day is picks the team and it's down to us to go out there and get the results."

So he does nothing on the training ground then? <whistle>

He does the training and the start and middle of the day, it's only at the end of the day that he picks the team <ok>

I do think Johnson could have said more, or at least something more clearly written, so that idiots like me wouldn't see that bit straight away <doh>
