I'd ask where Carrabuh is, but judging by this thread, I'd guess he's off creating a new Not606 profile!
Well I made the mistake, Carrabuh made it and a few others made it (including my mate who was a Blackburn fan), so it was hardly a difficult mistake to make! As I said, I watched the Sky replays, and all they showed (to my memory) was the part with Hoolahan not celebrating and then players jumping on him. The clip made it look like he hadn't celebrated at all, and then all the media said he hadn't. So as I said, if I'd bothered to actually watch the replay in full and been a bit more sceptical about the Press story (admittedly both would have been sensible) then I would have seen a fuller picture. But I didn't. That's why it was an easy mistake. And yes, it was eased further for some who clearly harbour resentment for his attitude during January. If anything, blame the press!
All I saw was a half hearted initial hand movement, stop and make his deliberate actions known to all. If anyone can get any video showing otherwise (I have been looking) then perhaps I'll stand corrected, until then, given there are those that have agreed with me but not seen it as an issue I'll remain of the view he should be kicked out. I certainly saw it as a deliberate and I didn't have any commentary to persuade me so, it was the first thing I thought, and I remain unconvinced by others who wish to pass it off as irrelevent and that his actions were appropriate and worthy of a player who has built such a strong affinity with the club. You have his ex manager The team that tried to sign him At the ground of that club that our supporters have travelled to And a damn important game between those teams With tension between both clubs I seriously think alot of you are underplaying what he did and just want to see it as being OK. Its not, it was a genuine lack of respect of the club in front of the cameras and quite frankly an embarrassment to have it happen to us. A player who doesn't want people to see him celebrate scoring for the club he's spent 6 years at? Everyone is aware of his position, that was not the time to express his opinion of the decision to not sell him Unless I see anything otherwise (or he issues an apology, or an adequate explanation) I certainly won't be cheering him on anymore, much as it bothers me I'd probably rather Hughton still be here next season and coming from me thats probably far worse than being called a ratweasel.
http://balls.ie/football/gif-wes-hoolahan-goal-vs-aston-villa/#.UxjiNt_1XbE.twitter This is the view the Villa fans would have had, and when you consider within two seconds he had been completely mobbed by his teammates it doesn't really look so bad does it? Whoever put the clip up doesn't seem to mention it anywhere and chooses only to write about what a smart finish it was. Honestly, this is ridiculous, it's one of the biggest overreactions that I can remember, it's definitely the biggest since the last one anyway.
this is properly getting out of hand now. this is a total non-story and i would bet very good money that had wes scored against ANY OTHER SIDE last weekend he would have celebrated in precisely the same way and not one word would have been mentioned about it. the issue here is not with wes or what he did (or didn't do), it's with the people who have got themselves worked up and upset about it.
Wes should be shot, what the **** did he think he was doing, playing a neat first time ball, carrying on his run and putting the ball in the back of the net, what a treacherous little bastard!
Have a look at his face as he just fails to score at the second attempt after his one-on-one in the first half as well. Doesn't look like the face of a guy who isn't giving his all for the cause, he looked gutted. And sorry Dave, I don't agree with Iwan Roberts in that article I'm afraid. Whilst he didn't go completely bonkers, he did celebrate the goal and nothing he did was disrespectful as far as I'm concerned.
It's written in the stars. He'll score two on Saturday, take his shirt off after each goal and wave it around to be seen to be jubilant - and get himself sent off in the process. Maybe that would satisfy some of the Hoolabashers?
Munky, I didn't put it up because I agreed with it, I put it up because it was relevant to the thread!
No - that would be definitive proof of his treachery because he would have got himself deliberately sent off to try to get us to lose the match, get relegated and also ensure that he does not have to play for us for one match
Hi bors, I clearly stated when Hoolahan criticised our club in that media statement that he should be put on his bike, my opinion on that matter has not change as no public apology has been made. Regarding last Saturday's result I fail to see how Hoolahan should receive criticism for scoring a goal. The real culprits were the defenders. Benteke's first goal was unstoppable but the others could and should have been prevented. Hoolahan was lucky he was a Norwich player as another club would have fined him at least a week's wages for making those detrimental remarks. But that is no excuse for being so critical of him when he dons the green and yellow and does what no other player seems capable of . . . scoring a goal !!! How he celebrates that goal is entirely immaterial.
Hoolahan on Villa goal CITY midfielder Wes Hoolahan says he was delighted to get on the scoresheet at Aston Villa and meant no disrespect whatsoever to the Yellow Army with his goal celebration. The Irish international celebrated his return to the City starting line-up by sprinting to get on the end of Gary Hooper’s pass to find the net after just three minutes of the Barclays Premier League clash at Villa Park last Sunday. Hoolahan says he was ‘over the moon’ for himself, the Norwich faithful and the team when the ball hit the back of the net, although obviously deeply disappointed along with his team-mates with City’s eventual 4-1 defeat. The 31-year-old admits he’s had a frustrating time working his way back into first team contention, but says January transfer speculation linking him with a potential move to Villa is firmly behind him now – and was definitely not a factor when he scored on Sunday. He told canaries.co.uk: “It’s been frustrating being out of the side, of course every professional footballer wants to be playing. You work hard in training week-in, week-out in order to basically get ready to play in games. But you’ve just got to keep your head down and work hard. “We’ve got a great bunch of lads here, we’ve got a great team spirit and we’re a good unit together and hopefully at the end of the season we’ll finish as high up the table as we can. “Once the window closes you know where you stand and my head’s definitely here. I’ve got to work 100 per cent which I’ve always done when I’ve pulled on the Norwich City shirt and I’ll always be fighting for the team until the last minute of the game. “The fans have been great to me ever since I arrived and cheered my name when I’m on the pitch. It’s special to me and I enjoy every minute of it. “Obviously it was the first few minutes of the game and you know, when I saw it hit the back of the net I was ecstatic and over the moon with the goal. “It’s been a difficult few months but I certainly wasn’t disappointed about scoring, I was delighted with the goal. I did a fist-pump and throughout the whole game I ran my heart out for the fans and for the team. “At the end of the game I went over to the fans to say sorry for what a disappointing result it was. I’ve got so much respect for the Norwich fans because obviously they’ve given me a lot of support over the years so I certainly didn’t mean to disrespect anybody with the celebration and I’m sorry if anyone’s taken it the wrong way because I was over the moon with my goal. “I was delighted to score personally and for the team and the fans although obviously really disappointed that we went on to lose the game.” Read more at http://www.canaries.co.uk/news/article/20140307-hoolahanvillagoal-1404483.aspx#xPVTxmjisbJGMH5x.99
It does seem to be a fascinating aspect of the football supporter that they will always selectively abstract information to fit their argument without ever considering alternative explanations - I know I do it. But in this case, everyone knew how he was feeling about being under utilised (at least in his mind) and that could obviously give rise to a whole range of emotions and expression of emotion when he scored. How easy it is to be scathing, but much harder to give folk the benefit the doubt.
I honestly can't believe Carrabuh's reaction (As well as many other people's). Especially as he has been Wes's biggest fan for the last 2 years. It was such a nothing incident so for all this hate to be thrown Wes's way is frankly outrageous. I'm even less inclined to take Carrabuh seriously now when his entire opinion on a player can be alter by such a minor event. I honestly think you should be a little ashamed at what you've said on here and even more ashamed that you are encouraging others to boo Wes. You'd have us booing the entire team if you could. Too much time spent focusing on the negatives rather than looking at the bigger picture. Ridiculous!
Yes... everybody is on edge right now with the position we are in and at the slightest offering any player who does something slightly controversial deserved to be killed. First Snodgrass then Hoolahan... who next?
I know mate, rubbish isn't it. I just don't get that mentality at all, never have done. It's just a waste of energy
