If I ever think of anything worthy, I will. Otherwise I'd just be upsetting people.

Loving True Detective. McConoughey's character is excellent. Only two in thus far.

Do people still watch them? Surely no one is still paying attention to Russell Howard.

I'm more concerned about American Dad and Family Guy! And also Some Girls, they've gotta bring that back. The Revolution Will be Televised is quite amusing as well, to some extent.

In other news, 'tis me birthday today.

It was my birthday exactly a month ago today and I didn't tell anyone, so I suggest we celebrate it today with the added hilarity of completely stealing PL's thunder.

    Happy birthday to me!

Lance Armstrong is supposed to appear in court under oath on Thursday in a case brought by a company who paid him bonuses for winning races. His lawyers are objecting, saying that to give evidence under oath would damage his reputation. <laugh> I think that statement has done that...if anyone still had doubts.

Both of their characters are great. I thought the first two episodes were a little too slow paced even for me, but I'm up to episode four now and it keeps getting better and better. Really unique so far. SOme of McConoughey's characters thoughts on religion won't go down too well in the USA.

''England forward and anti-racism campaigner Toni Duggan has apologised for painting her face black and dressing up as film star Whoopi Goldberg for a fancy dress party''

Maybe by posting this here, i will discover why it is wrong for her to dress up as Whoopi Goldberg. From the starting point that Toni has decided to be Whoopi for the party,
there are 3 possible options that i see:

    1. She goes as Whoopi Goldberg (who is black) and wears makeup to appear black.
    2. She goes as Whoopi Goldberg (who is black) and does not wear make up.
    3. She does not go as Whoopi Goldberg.

For me, if anything option 2 or 3 would be more racist - going as a white Whoopi Goldberg, who is not white, or not going as Whoopi Goldberg at all simply because she is black.

This is one of those things that i just do not understand, if someone could sensibly explain to me, then I'd be grateful :)

Delicate issue, isn't it. I mean there is a history of this kind of thing which is slathered in racism, and it can be construed as exaggerating their skin colour or perhaps making a joke out of skin colour, but obviously it can also just be for the sake of a realistic costume, so it's all about interpretation. In an ideal world we'd be able to do such things without any hint of discrimination, but for now it's a pretty sensitive area and I sure as hell wouldn't "black up" for a costume.

(And this is coming from someone who once dressed up as Nazi Walt Disney for a Disney-themed fancy dress night out.)

I would accept that she meant no harm, but I am surprised at her lack of common sense....bearing in mind that most of wouldn't do it. It is regarded as insulting because of blacked up minstrels, where the make up was not realistic, but consisted of large red lips and white eyes.
